ML> Nancy pulled out some Agave ginger cashews from Lori's. They
ML> were just like the Trader Joe ones that I'm familiar with but
ML> more stale (probably because of the high humidity here at camp).

Possibly also because I got them from the bulk section at Lori's, so
they might have been exposed to Rochester's high-ish humidity whilst
being packaged into the little tubs... I've also noticed that the agave
seems to soften the cashews some anyway...

ML> Our field trip was to the Potsdam Co-Op about half an hour or
 ML> three-quarters from the camp.

I note that you left out our lunch before going on the field trip...
I had brought a couple flavors of Wegmans chicken sausages to try, along
with a package of Wegmans uncured hots (aka white hots)... The sun-dried
tomatoes sausages seemed to be prefered over the spinach-feta sausages.
The white hots were noted to be quite like a German brockwurst... Steve
grilled all the sausages and dogs on the charcoal grill for us. Bread
and mustard were available to accompany, as desired... I'd also picked
up a Roasted Veggies 'veggie bowl' from Wegmans to accompany, a mix of
eggplant, pepper, zucchini, yellow squash, mushrooms and onions...
something for everyone, and just tasting portions... :)

ML> Nancy picked up ginger scones from the bakery in
ML> the next building at the end of the parking lot.

They were available right there in the co-op, but had come from that
bakery in back...

ML> Somebody - probably Steve - got Natural Brew Outrageous ginger
ML> ale, which was disappointingly noutrageous, pretty average actually.

Twas indeed Steve, and he also got a Natural Brew root beer which wasn't
bad... a tad better than the ginger ale, anyway... definitely better
than the 88-cent stuff from Price Chopper.

ML> I got hummus, lightly garlicked and even more lightly lemoned and
ML> pretty much as good as the Air Canada version, which is my
 ML> gold standard,

Which got compared to the hummuses that Hafflys brought, one of which
was labled Lemony and was quite so... ;)

ML> and oil-cured olives, which were average, which
ML> means pretty good to me, but most of this group didn't care for
ML> olives in any form except oil.

I liked them quite well, actually... I think Ruth took the remainder
home... :)

ML> Blue Sky beverages were on special, so I bought
ML> cola - sweeter and less acid than Coke; Ruth thought it was
 ML> like Pepsi, I said RC;

my least favorite of the three...

ML> orange cream - pretty good by all estimations; I found it acidy
ML> and orangey but not creamy in any way (people call things with
 ML> vanilla "cream" for some reason);

Tasted somewhat like an orange creamsicle...

ML> cherry vanilla - some people thought it was like cough syrup,
ML> but Nancy and I rather liked it.

Didn't taste at all like cough syrup to me... maybe the vanilla cut
that...?

ML> Honey Acres chocolate mints - three ingredients, 99% dark
ML> chocolate coating, 100% honey flavored with oil of peppermint.
ML> Really good - If you bit in and chewed, you got something like
ML> the after-dinner mint experience, but if you let the candy
ML> melt in your mouth, you get this bitter chocolatiness followed
ML> by a burst of intense minty honey. Good chocolate and good
ML> honey and good mint. Can't go wrong.

None of those left at the end of the week, either... :)

ML> Harry & David relishes - onion and pepper had a nice if puny
ML> kick; red pepper and ancho chile tasted like sweet pepper
ML> jelly, nothing special at all.

Also at that meal the red cabbage and apple first came out, to appear as
an accompaniment to various other meals... :)

ML> Gail made a Key lime pie that went over very well.

It also served as a magnet to encourage participation by Linda and my
son... ;)

ML> I didn't like the Zevia cola - it tasted really artificial to
ML> me and actually not very sweet at all; plus it had caffeine.

It had a bitter (after)taste to me... part of the artificial-ly taste,
I'd guess... At least I know not to get the Zevia soft drinks for me,
now... ;)
