=======================
Hi Nancy,

NB> NB>> Have you had a chance yet...?

RH> It looks and smells like what I used to make; we've not sliced it yet
RH> to see if it tastes like it. It turned out quite well tho I kneaded in
RH> about a cup more flour than the recipe called for.

NB> Probably due to humidity, with all that rain you've been having... :)

Could be, we had more today. Third rainy Saturday in a row!

RH> I subbed in dry milk (for the liquid milk, just used another cup of
RH> water, and added caraway seeds & some gluten. Instead of doing it the
RH> way the recipe read, I mixed about half of the flour and the other drys
RH> (including the yeast), heated liquids to about 125 & added them, mixed
RH> well, adding more flour as needed. A lot less fuss; it's the way I do
RH> my whole wheat bread and had done the rye bread that way years ago.

NB> So basically, you did the changes you'd probably already have done to
NB> the original recipe over the years... Does it taste like what you've
 NB> been looking for, too...?

I think the taste is basically the same, from what I remember of the old
recipe. Others I tried tasted like they had too much cocoa--this had
none, and used molasses for sweetening vs honey or brown sugar. The use
of molasses is one thing that I'd remembered from the old recipe but had
trouble finding until UDD pulled it out.

NB> NB>> Oh, I dunno... don't have to shovel rain... but snow doesn't get
NB> you NB>> as wet when you get caught out in it... ;)

RH> Depends on the snow, if it's a dry, powdery or a heavy, wet one; the
RH> latter is as soaking as a rainstorm.

NB> But not necessarily as quickly... and more like a moderate rainstorm
 NB> than a downpour... ;)

And some, like the trade wind showers in HI, are barely noticeable, just
a light misting and gone.

RH> Anyway, yesterday was our first day without rain (12 days of it),
RH> warm & sunny, today was the same. Very enjoyable but they're saying
RH> showers Friday night into Saturday again.

NB> We're getting the showers today... I'm sure the sunny days have been
NB> very enjoyable for you after so much rain...

I'm hoping to see more of them. (G)

NB> etc. NB>> Just not a place for restocking goods, just renewing good
 NB> NB>> tastes... :)

RH> True, mentally vs physical restocking.

 NB> Yup.

NB> NB>> This past weekend, I've been at Fu's twice (counting today) and
NB> the NB>> Asian Buffet in Canton also twice... We went to Taste of
NB> Japan Friday NB>> night with a friend from church, I was up at the
NB> Pond Saturday to NB>> Monday to close camp and deliver RJ to the
NB> Watertown airport Monday NB>> for his next boat job so we went to the
NB> Buffet Saturday and Sunday NB>> evenings, and then today I had lunch
NB> with a friend at Fu's again... :) NB>> No more buffet in Canton until
NB> Spring for me, though... Fu's, on the NB>> other hand, probably will
 NB> happen regularly... ;)

RH> We've been home for meals this week, no traveling. Steve will have
RH> supper as part of the local Legion meeting tomorrow, and Friday, the
RH> district meeting. I'll have clean out the fridge meals. (G)

NB> Probably not much more traveling if at all any more this year for me,

We have one very short (time wise) but long (distance wise) coming up,
not sure of our end of the year plans--depends on timing and finances.

NB> either... :) Since we closed camp for the winter, I ended up
NB> bringing home some extras from RJ's fridge that he hadn't finished up
NB> in time... eggs, a seasoned pork tenderloin, a couple of frozen from
NB> the pond Boyd Pond fish, a package of Johnsonville hot Italian sausage
 NB> links, half a
NB> small tube of pate of foie gras, a loaf of cinnamon bread, maybe a
NB> third of a pound of bacon...

Quite a haul, there. How are you going to cook the pork tenderloin?

He had tossed the fresh asparagus and peppers before I realized
he had them, or I'd've gladly taken the asparagus home, too... :)

Sigh! You still did quite well.

He had planned to eat down all the stuff in his fridge before
going, but didn't quite manage to, and there wasn't time for him to
cook it his "proper" way, on a woodfire, while I was up for the

I know, same story here. We usually don't get the fridge cleaned out as
well as I'd like it to be, before going on a trip. The last one did
quite well; the upcoming one, since we'll only be gone a few days, is
much less of a concern.

weekend... ;) So far we've had the sausage, and I've had a bit
of the bread and the eggs... we hardboiled half of them up at the
Pond, for snacking on as needed, and I ended up bringing 4 of those
home along with the half dozen raw ones... :) I think we're well
 stocked for the moment... ;)

OTOH, I went shopping for both Life Group cooking and stuff for us
yesterday. We were quite well stocked on some things, others, like
yogurt, we were out of. Now there are 11 cups in the fridge, had been a
dozen but I had one as part of breakfast. Bread in the fridge included
whole wheat, rye (both home made), English muffins, cinnamon rolls (from
the farmer's market, part of breakfast tomorrow), and whole wheat
sandwich thins. Eggs--both steamed (not hard boiled) and raw........

Catch you later,
