=======================
Hi Nancy,

NB> NB>> That sounds better... and nice haul there... I haven't seen the
NB> NB>> pattypans show up here yet, but it should be the season for
 NB> them... :)

RH> I didn't get to the market today so will have to go with what's on
RH> hand for veggies next week. I'll slice the patty pans squash, dip it in
RH> flour and fry it for one night's veggie. Last night I did a clean out
RH> odds and ends of veggies stir fry for supper but held out the patty
 RH> pans.

NB> I try to keep some bags of frozen veggies in the freezer for the weeks
NB> it's harder to get the fresh for whatever reason... or if things get
NB> eaten up faster than I'm expecting... ;)

I have a part bag of green beans in the freezer but we've been spoiled
with having fresh for so much of our veggies. I'll probably use it up in
the next week or so, then get a couple of bags of different vegetables,
just as back up, or use in soups.

NB> NB>> So now, just make sure you don't lose it again... ;)

RH> That's for sure! It's on the computer, plus a paper print out to use
 RH> in the kitchen.

NB> Maybe have another hardcopy to tuck in a cookbook, just in case the
 NB> computer crashes...? (G)

Probably wouldn't be a bad idea. I need to get all my loose print outs,
etc organised into a binder or something similar, at least our favorites
that I usually make once or twice a year. Some day.................

RH> BTW, I was reading a bit on convection ovens, said they're good for
RH> roasts but not so much for other longer term things so I'm not sure if
RH> I'll do bread on that cycle or not. It's good for shorter term things
RH> -- Steve roasted some pumpkin seeds in it, took 10 minutes to cook.

NB> I suppose the only way to really know is to experiment, and see what
NB> happens... ;) But I suppose it might be like with the microwave, some
NB> things just cook better than others do... :)

Probably, but for now, I'll keep using the regular cycle for bread
baking.

NB> NB>>> then, maybe FL for the holidays with Steve's parents...?
NB> RH>> Debating heading west instead of south.
NB> NB>> Ah... seeing your kids and the grands... :)

RH> Yes, we've not been out there since August of 2013 when the last one
 RH> was born.

NB> How time flies... ;) But the last two years have certainly been busy
 NB> and demanding ones...

Amen to that one! I don't think we have any more big pieces of furniture
to bring back from NY but had a call last night from our friends in PA.
When we were there in August, we went down to the National Night Out
gathering in McClure. One booth had raffle tickets for first prize being
a home made pie safe, forget 2nd but 3 & 4 were painted slate tiles done
by the wife of the other couple that grew up with Steve's dad. We bought
some tickets, hoping to get 3rd or 4th, then forgot about it until a
couple of weeks ago (the drawing was Oct 17). When we didn't get a call,
we figured we'd not won anything. The call last night was to let us know
we'd won the pie safe, also to tell us tha one of Steve's aunts had
passed away. We'll probably pick it up next spring when we go north
again.

 NB> NB>> Won't need to add flavor... it's a Smithfield seasoned with
 NB> NB>> peppercorns and garlic...

RH> OK, I see. I've seen them both plain and seasoned, so figured it was
RH> the former, not the latter.

NB> I can understand him buying the seasoned, even though he likes to do
NB> his own seasoning too... he was doing all his cooking on a wood fire
NB> in the fireplace down by the pondside...

Probably figured it was easier to get the pre seasoned than to take the
time/effort to do it when he had other projects going on.

NB> maintainence if RH>> you're at the camp for a prolonged time.
NB> NB>> Mostly the just in case... he'd already found a good one in
NB> Canton, NB>> which is closer to the camp... :)

RH> Never hurts to have a back up one tho. We've taken our car to the Ford
RH> dealer but the extended warranty is now expired, not sure where Steve
RH> will go with it now.

NB> Ask around for suggestions for a good mechanic... :)

We'll see when the time comes, hopefully not for a good long while.

NB> RH>> No, we did some shopping yesterday but glad we didn't need to
NB> rush out RH>> the same day we got home.
NB> NB>> Indeed. :) I try to plan to have something in the fridge or
NB> freezer NB>> for fixing the day or so after returning... rushing out
NB> as soon as you NB>> get home isn't much fun when you've been on the
 NB> road for a while... ;)

RH> Our custom (since the girls have been gone) is to go out for supper
RH> the first night we're home. It gives me a bit of time to decompress
RH> and think about what we need to get.

NB> Often when I return from a trip, Richard's as ready as I am to go
NB> out... generally to someplace like Fu's... or the Grand Super (Asian)

We've gone to the same Italian place several times now--small,
busy--does most of its business in pizza but has other things on the
menu. We both like the chicken cachitori but decided to try the seafood
cannoli and lobster ravioli specials on our recent visit. The first was
better than the second; the sauce drowned out the delicate lobster
taste.

NB> Buffet or similar... for whatever reason, it's easier to catch up
 NB> sitting at a
NB> table in a restaurant than at home... ;)

The mind is going several ways at once, at home, thinking about what has
to be done, now that you're home. A restaurant is a neutral area where
you can just relax, catch up with each other, have a good meal, get
fortified for the jobs to do at home, etc, etc. (G)

Catch you later,
