So, I did the semi-intelligent thing, and asked Rich which varieties of
pears they actually grow...  ;)  He's pretty sure that what Richard
picked me wasn't a Seckel, although they have them... the Seckel tree
was way on the other side of the garden... from my description he said
it was either a Magnus or a Kieffer, both of which he grows, with a
strong guess towards the latter, since he noticed the ladder against
that tree... :)  He said that one is more a cooking pear rather than an
eating one, and I told him that it still tasted good, if a little on the
not quite ripe side... ;)  He sorta offered, next year's growing season,
to bring me samples as they ripen of all 5 pear varieties he grows... He
has a lot more varieties of apples...  :)
