Bone marrow is indeed invasive and painful... had that done once, too...
and after the hematologist had told me that he didn't think I'd need
that done, even...  Was in for the next visit, the resident saw me, and
didn't give me any warning before doing it...  Everything was fine, at
least... ;)

The scan might just show that you are only in the early stages, called
osteopenia (which I have)... And it's pretty easy to up one's Calcium,
Vit D and Vit K, to keep things under control...  It's probably a good
thing to at least find out where you stand with the bone density... it's
one of the usually paid for tests, too..  :)  After my osteopenia was
diagnosed, I started to use the Viactiv Calcium chews (with D & K), and
brought things up for the better... it's still mostly stabilized for
me... I do still eat the chews regularly...  

I kinda figured that I was going to be in trouble with it, as both
grandmothers and my mother had full-blown osteoporosis... but they
weren't nearly so much milk drinkers as I, so my doctor figured I
shouldn't be worried... I pushed for the scan as soon as I hit menopause
(which is when it starts being paid in full for for women as a
screening) just to be on the safe side... especially since my mom's
first scan showed the full-blown osteoporosis... so I worried about the
genetic component... ;)  I'm glad I did... as it turned out that dietary
calcium really wasn't quite enough for me... It probably was the combo
of the three together that I needed...  :)
