The shuttle to the airport was timely and quick.

I said goodbye to Swisher and pointed him toward the Orlyval station;
he went steadfastly off in the wrong direction, but as my rollaboard
no longer rolls, I could run only so far to try to catch him. The
difference between a rolling suitcase and a nonrolling one is sufficient
to mean that I lost track of him within a minute or two. Of course I
tried shouting after him. I don't have that big of a voice, and you
remember he's kind of deaf.

So I went off to Hall 3 to check in, which was a snap, and took off
for the Orlyval station to make sure he was okay; he wasn't within 
sight, so I figure he must have eventually figured things out.

Returned to Door 31 to do security. The priority security is roped
off, but a few minutes' milling around yielded a ceremonial opening
of the rope and an escort to the double secret security screening
(within sight of the envious polloi).

There was something suspicious in someone's bag. Of course, they
accused me of owning it. A few seconds' vigorous disputation in
a mixture of bad English and bad French cleared that up easily.
The actual owner, as usual, was a white person.

The 212 Orly lounge is down in the basement; it's rather small, 
although they've done their best to deal with the physical 
shortcomings and come up with a comfortable space. One kind of
cool thing is that you're down at mechanic level so you get to
see the undercarriages of the aircraft at nearby gates.

I was a little hungry and indulged in a ham and fromage frais with 
mizuna on toast; this was excellent - bizarrely so, as if they'd 
dusted the filling with umami powder - and went brilliantly with
Billecart-Salmon brut.

The red on offer was Ch. Escot 11 (Medoc), surprisingly respectable.

Lay's chips a l'ancienne were like regular Lay's but greasier and tastier.

Out of Africa mixed nuts from the Kenya Nut Company - almonds and cashews.
It's a nice thing to support third-world economies; I'm sad to say that 
the nuts were somewhat oxidized. As it turns out, the same brand as served
on the plane were fine.

There was a Comte-like cheese that was okay and also a juvenile-looking
Camembert that I didn't bother with.

Extraordinarily good cherry tomatoes.

I heard a rumor of Laduree macarons? not there.

An oddity: the fresh grapes were Muscat a gros grains and some of the
most aromatic and sweetest grapes I've had in a while..

Boarding was a bit of a mess, with the business-class (cutesily called
"biz bed") line the only visible one and thus clogged with passengers
of all sorts. The various economy lines were around the corner and 
relatively inaccessible. For every few people let through one was
sent to the back of the line. They really could manage this better.
Just making the business line the economy line and putting the
priority line around the corner, for example. After we were admitted
there was a bit of a kerfuffle and we were held in this room just
prior to the jetbridge proper (and which seemed to be built for
this purpose) - someone managed to get through without a boarding 
pass, so we all had ours rechecked, visually only - this didn't
instill the greatest confidence in the security system.
