There are many things that normally don't have any,
so even the most sensitive can usually make a good
full meal out of normal offerings. It's just when 
they want gravy and stuffing (not an unreasonable
want) and cookies and pie that things get complicated.

I'd try it for the sake of trying it. Admittedly
the ones I've encountered before are somehow lacking
in appeal.

For night flights I also factor in the savings in
hotel and/or dealing with the domestic situation,
so I take a disproportionate number of red-eyes.

Luckily we're affluent enough not to run out of food
in general.

Old-fashioned holiday cheese straws
categories: starter, dairy
servings: 30 to 35

1/2 c margarine, softened
1 1/2 c room-temperature smoked Gouda cheese
- finely shredded
1 1/2 c room-temperature sharp Cheddar cheese
- finely shredded
1 1/2 c all-purpose flour
1/2 ts onion powder
1/2 ts paprika
1/2 ts salt
1/8 ts ground black pepper
3 Tb heavy cream

Preheat the oven to 325F. Lightly spray a parchment-lined 
cookie sheet with baking spray.

Combine the butter (n.b.) and cheese in a large bowl and 
mix well with a wooden spoon (or better yet, your hands!). 
Add the flour, onion powder, paprika, salt, pepper, and 
cream. Mix well to combine. Place the dough in a piping bag.

Pipe the dough into 3 in strips and bake the straws 
11-14 min until lightly colored. Remove the straws from 
the oven and place on wire racks to cool.
