Hi Ruth,

RH> > RH> Aldi? Trader Joe's is great for produce, if you have one. I
 RH> used >

RH> > Aldi's is local, TJ's is in Raleigh, same as Whole Foods and The
 RH> Fresh > Market.

RH> One more reason to shop Aldi. I do have one of those relatively close
RH> to me, but it's still a good 15 minutes beyond my regulars.

I'll shop Aldi's locally. If we're in Raleigh near TJ's, Fresh Market or
Whole Foods and what I need is at one of them, we'll get it there. If
we're in Wake Forest and Aldi's doesn't have what I want/need, I'll go
to Lowe's, Harris Teeter or wherever it can be found.

RH> > RH> costing $12. My sister made only a breast the other day, so I
 RH> wanted > RH> my dark(er) meat.
 RH> >
RH> > Sounds like a deal to me.

RH> Yep - especially considering the highway robbery prices they had on
 RH> the turkey.

We didn't get one--full freezer and a turkey breast in it already.

RH> > RH> Too true. We don't get those. but sometimes the meat markdowns
 RH> can be > RH> pretty
RH> > RH> steep if you hit them at the right time. The fresh turkeys
RH> were 59 > RH> cents/pound today too, but with only two of us who
RH> needs a whole bird. > RH> The freezer is already full.

RH> > If the freezer has room, you get the meat department to cut it into
RH> > quarters for you. Most often they will, at no extra charge. It's a
RH> more > reasonable size for 2 people.

RH> I passed. It would mean dealing with that pesky breast meat.

I like the white better than the dark. (G)

RH> > RH> Curled up on his footlocker at least once. The sarge said
 RH> "this one > RH> passes".

RH> > Sergeant was outranked on that one.

RH> Outranked in more ways than one!

RH> > RH> Poor kitty. Cats can't really digest vegetable matter, but
 RH> maybe the > RH> grease
RH> > RH> and salt were OK. Cats like salty stuff.
 RH> >
RH> > But lived to an advanced age, once he got "normal" cat food.

RH> And I'll bet sneaked the other stuff too.

I've no idea.

 RH> > RH> Here too - low 20s too.
 RH> >
 RH> > Hopefully we're not having a prolonged winter. It's starting early
RH> > enough this fall that it's possible, but I hope less snow/ice than
 RH> last > year's storms.

RH> It's been warmer than normal here, oddly enough.

It's warm right now but going to be much cooler by morning, if I
understand rightly. We're in the yo-yo weather phase, trying to decide
if it should just go ahead & cool down or tease people with a few more
(sporadically placed) warm days before cooling down for the season. (G)

RH> > RH> Good idea. I buy some of the quick cook and hit it with boiling
RH> water. > RH> Works about as well and it doesn't take space in the
 RH> freezer.
 RH> >
RH> > Just as easy, smaller portions that I can add yogurt or some other
RH> > protein without blowing my carb count sky high.

RH> Good idea. Speaking of carbs, I made pumpkin "pudding" the other night
RH> - pumpkin pie without the crust. The crust on that pie always ends up
RH> soggy anyway, so I just left it off.

I'll pass my piece of pumpkin pie to Steve.

RH> > RH> > seasoning on foods but said that the nursing home
RH> Thanksgiving > RH> dinner > was very bland, like it was out of a can.

RH> > RH> Ewwwww. Ick. Only jellied cranberry sauce should come from a
 RH> can. > RH> It's tradition.

RH> > He had no choice in the matter.

RH> I have a friend living in a nursing home here. He has schizophrenia
RH> and some physical problems and could probably live in a group home of
 RH> some
 RH> kind,
RH> but for a lot of reasons lives there. I bring him a bottle of hot
RH> sauce every so often. ...and just remembered I was going to get him
RH> some coffee creamer and totally blew it for the second day in a row.
 RH> Arggh.

Whoops, have you gotten it to him yet? Dad is doing better in the
nursing home than he was at home with just one care giver.

RH> > RH> and printers > took over so to save weight, space, etc, the
 RH> > RH> typewriters found new
 RH> > RH> > homes.
 RH> >
RH> > RH> OTOH, teenagers and young adults have found the old manuals.
 RH> There's >
RH> > Third World countries with a less than stable power supply like them
 RH> > too.

RH> That too. I used mine during a power outage more than once.

I had a manual in college so could type any time, power off or on.

RH> > RH> a fad for typing parties. Old letterpress stuff is hot too -
 RH> hand set > RH> type.
 RH> >
RH> > And harder to find, probably.

 RH> Getting that way.

No surprise there.

RH> > RH> > possibly the beginnings of her memory loss.
 RH> >
RH> > RH> Quite likely, although some memory quirks happen to everyone
 RH> sooner or > RH> later.
 RH> >
RH> > Nobody seems to want to give it a name other than old age initially.
RH> > Then, when it's more apparant there's more issues than age, it's
RH> "which > is it, A or D?" and doctors can't tell until an autopsy is
 RH> done.

RH> Sometimes they can, but the rest of the time not so much.

It's hard to do so, if I understand rightly.
