Win-win, so to speak... ;) And hopefully the charity does get needed
funds to do their thing thereby, as well... :)

 > Hopefully the people will be nice to interact with... set-ups or no. (G)
 > You only arrive there just before the event...?
ML> I'll have been at Annie's for Christmas through
ML> New Year's, and the event will be at her house.

Ah, ok... :)

ML> I recalled the name because of the Cowtown barbecue
ML> sauce that was sold at Oklahoma Joe's (mow Joe's
ML> Famous); the label has a cartoon of his on it.
ML> Charlie Podrebarac, no wonder I forgot.
 ML> http://www.gocomics.com/cowtown/2010/12/20
ML> He is also the creator of the Maggie Moo's (another
 ML> Kansas City company) logo.

Does he hail from Kansas City, then...?

ML> I'd imagine that Popeye kept a pretty close though
ML> ugly eye on his minions.

I'm sure he did... but not as sure about the company that took his
name... :)

 > Apparently this part of that crowd weren't into veggies that much...
ML> They're actually quite into veggies, but that's their norm,
ML> and the intensity of the flavor (dark meat chicken after
ML> all) and the primal nature of chowing down on flesh were
ML> perhaps not so familiar to them.

Ah.... so the vegetarian dish, no matter how tasty, was more familiar,
and thus more run-of-the-mill for them...

ML> The day after, or was it two days after, they served me a
ML> butternut squash black bean vegan chili, the squash somewhat
ML> undercooked to give the jawa something to chew on in a
ML> meatlike way (remind me never to do this).

I rather think I might not have to do any reminding... ;) Chewy black
beans might have done better... ;)

ML> They try to balance their meat meals
ML> (preferably not beef, uses too many planetary resources)
 ML> with vegetarian/vegan ones.

Back when I was cooking more vegetarian(-ish) meals, we tried to balance
them with meat meals... ;)

ML> Vered and Stephan are among them. Though Stephan had the
ML> beef short rib thing and gladly accepted the offer of a
ML> chicken wing, Vered won't eat meat off the bone, a same
ML> neurosis shared by Lilli and actually several other of
ML> my friends. She sees the silliness and irrationality of
ML> that prejudice, though, which some others do not.

Perhaps it feels too primal...? Or childish...? (Maybe not that much
difference between them, actually... ;) ) Richard will eat meat off a
bone, but he prefers not to have to hassle with it... :)

 > Both meals sound quite appealing to me... chicken thighs, paprika,
 > garlic & ginger sauce, eggplant... yummmmm... ;)
ML> I actually liked the vegetarian meal almost as much,
ML> and had it been served with some other starch than
ML> brown rice I might have liked it equally.

SOW, I just picked up a Japanese eggplant at Lee's Oriental today... I
think it will become eggplant in garlic/ginger sauce... Maybe serve it
with some shrimp... :)

 > ML> Title: Kuritsa S Paprikoy (Chicken Paprikash)

 > I'd approve of those changes... :) Was the thyme/oregano substitution
 > because of lack of marjoram, or for taste reasons...?
ML> Marjoram was unavailable. Oregano is similar, but I thought
ML> thyme would add something, but I ended up using too much.

Never know the potency of someone else's herbs, I suppose... :)
