No one forces you to use *any* of the capabilities of the computer. You can
leave it on the shelf and resort to pencil and paper and a deck of playing
cards. Be sure to put your Ned Ludd autographed hat firmly on your head.

Programmers write code to take advantage of both the available hardware and the
operating system. Often they include "features" merely because they are "neat"
and possible. Making your old hardware/software incompatible with the newer
programs and platforms is just the law of unintended consequences. So, yeah,
your paranoia is working overtime. They're really not out to get you.

ML> In this case the ancient programs do what I need them to
ML> do with a lifetime of headroom. And, had people not lapped
ML> up the corporate soma, many others would admit their needs
ML> and wants could be fed a lot easier with faster versions
 ML> of the older stuff.

That's pretty much true - and you will have seen that I tilt at many of the
same windmills WRT Meal Master and MMconv.

MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.06

      Title: Dutch Windmill Cookies
Categories: Cookies, Snacks, Desserts, Nuts, Dairy
      Yield: 30 Servings

    1/4 c Sour Cream
    1/2 ts Baking soda
  1 3/4 c All-purpose flour
    1/2 ts Salt
    1/4 ts Ground cinnamon
    1/4 ts Ground nutmeg
    1/8 ts Ground cloves
1 c Firm packed brown sugar
    1/2 c Butter; softened
           Sliced almonds

These spice-flavored cut-out cookies are creatively
assembled to resemble the blades on a windmill in Holland.

Heat oven to 350oF/175oC. Stir sour cream and baking soda
together in small bowl. Combine flour, salt, cinnamon,
nutmeg and cloves in medium bowl. Set both mixtures aside.

Combine brown sugar and butter in large bowl. Beat at med
speed, scraping bowl often, until creamy. Reduce speed to
low; add sour cream mixture. Beat until well mixed. Add
flour mixture; continue beating until well mixed.

Divide dough in half. Roll out dough on lightly floured
surface, one-half at a time (keeping remaining dough
refrigerated), to 1/4" thick 9" square. Cut the square
into 6 (1 1/2") strips. Cut each strip in 11 triangles.

For each cookie, place 4 triangles (overlapping tips in
middle) onto ungreased cookie sheet. Sprinkle sliced
almonds in center of each cookie; press down lightly.
Repeat with remaining triangles. Bake for 7 to 11 minutes
or until set. Let cool on cookie sheet 2 minutes. Remove
from cookie sheet. Repeat with remaining dough.

  Yield: 2 1/2 dozen cookies
