Ah. They're pretty much all the same to me. I used to
play in an orchestra one of whose other members had been
Miss America. I didn't recognize the name or the face
and didn't realize that she was beautiful until someone
told me, and even then I didn't really believe it.

There are these two guys taking the train to some hick
town, the one on business, the other going home, and they
fall into conversation, and eventually it's time to get
off, which they do. At the station, there's this yokel
sitting on the fence, and the native says, watch this,
you'll get a laugh. He goes up to the yokel and says,
Hey, Clem, I got a gift for you. He holds out a nickel
and a dime and says to him, you can have one of these,
which would you like? And Clem goes, hyuck, thanks, Mr.
Jones, I'll take the big one. So Mr. Jones chuckles,
gives Clem the nickel, and goes off on his merry way.
The other guy, feeling a deep pity, waits until the
departure of Mr. Jones. Clem, he says, don't you realize
that the little coin is worth more than the big one?

Clem narrows his eyes and leans toward the other. Mister,
he hisses, you know that and I know that, but the very
first time I take the dime, the game ends.

Euell Gibbons, in common with many of those natural food
proponents, died of heart disease.

There's more to it than that. I used to be a proponent of
the view that safrole was as dangerous as, say, solanine,
but when the connection between it and cancer was shown to
be less than robust, I did some research and found that
there was a good reason for its demonization, one that it
was deemed by the PTB unnecessary to publicize. Turns out
it's the main precursor to various amphetamines, and the
synthesis of these from safrole is dead easy; you or I
could do it in the kitchen without breaking a sweat, if
you wanted a source of quick cash.
