They are just about the only people you find at any of the flea markets
around here.  There is one that has a regular opening on the weekend,
very near to the Sysco that we sometimes shop at.  We did go in there,
and what was being offered was typical Dollar Store junk, seen on TV
junk, and the like.  Nothing that looked like it would last a month on
normal use.  The vendors have semi permanent tables and booths.

If you can find such a market, the that is not what we have seen.
Sounds more like the types of places that CT Ruth likes to visit, but I
doubt that her places are permanent, but temporary things organized by
individuals or various civic organizations.

As I said, never seen such a thing -- we have often shopped at a variety
of thrift stores though.

All of those would be priced higher than $1.00.  Not available in any

MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.05
 
      Title: Shrimp Creole
 Categories: Shellfish, Cajun
      Yield: 6 Servings
 
      1 tb Olive oil
      1    Onion(s), finely chopped
      3 bn Chives or
     12    Scallions; finely chopped
           -(2 cups)
      4    Shallots; finely chopped
      6    Garlic clove(s)
           -finely chopped
      1    To 2 chilies
           -such as Scotch Bonnets
           -seeds and stems removed
           -finely chopped
      2 ts Ginger; finely chopped
  1 1/2 ts Madras curry powder
      3 lg Ripe tomatoes, peeled
           -seeded and diced
           -(about 2 1/4 lbs)
      1 c  Parsley; finely chopped
    1/4 c  Cilantro; chopped
      1 ts Thyme; chopped or
    1/4 ts Dried thyme
      1    Bay leaves
    1/3 c  Dark rum
      1 c  Fish stock or
           -bottled clam juice
      2 tb Tomato paste
     18    Jumbo shrimp (or 24 large)
           -(about 1 1/2 lbs)
           -peeled and deveined
      2 tb Lime juice
           -plus more to taste
    1/4 ts Salt
           -plus more to taste
    1/4 ts Pepper
           -plus more to taste
 
  Heat oil in a large nonstick skillet over medium heat. Add onions,
  chives or scallions, shallots, all but 1 tsp of the garlic, chilies,
  ginger and curry powder. cook, stirring, until just beginning to
  brown, 4-5 minutes. Stir in tomatoes, / cup of the parsley, cilantro,
  thyme and bay leaf. Increase heat to high and cook, stirring, for 1
  minute. Stir in rum and bring to boil. Add fish stock or clam juice
  and tomato paste. Reduce heat and simmer until thickened and
  well-flavored, about 10 minutes.
  
  The onion-tomato mixture can be made ahead to this point and kept
  covered in the refrigerator for up to 1 day. Return vegetables
  mixture to a simmer before proceeding.
  
  Meanwhile, place shrimp in a shallow glass dish and toss with 2 tbs
  lime juice, / tsp salt and / tsp pepper. cover with plastic wrap;
  refrigerate for 20 minutes.
  
  Stir the marinated shrimp into the onion-tomato mixture. Gently
  simmer over low heat, turning occasionally, until the shrimp are
  curled and opaque, 3-5 minutes. Stir in remaining 1 tsp garlic. Taste
  and adjust seasonings with lime juice, salt and pepper. Sprinkle with
  remaining / cup parsley and serve at once.
