My mom never used a pressure cooker for anything but canning. Funny
thing tho, she usually gave a small (6 qt or so) cooker as wedding
presents to my various cousins. Liver was always with bacon (one slice
each), in the frying pan, a bit more than a quick sear (think almost
shoe leather). Beef stew was done in the dutch oven, on the stove top,
and always served over bread (as an extender). Most of the major meals
involved mashed potatoes (potatoes cooked in a regular pan) and a side
veggie (another pan); the meat was done in a vatiety of ways but never
in the pressure cooker. Mom just had a big cooker (22 quart) that I can
recall so it wouldn't have been practical for a family our size.

My brother and youngest sister have been at a number of meetings with
various people. It's been a help for us; we usually get one report from
Dad and another (more detailed) from my brother keeping us up to date on
things. Doctor's visits are harder because my brother is still working
and can't always go with dad; usually his helper goes but I've a feeling
he doesn't discuss everything in front of her.
