=========================
Hi Nancy,

RH> Overall, no. The food was good, and not such huge portions that we had
RH> leftovers. Most places I figure on eating half (or less) and brining
RH> the rest home but I was comfortably full after this meal.

NB> Except for bringing home Steve's dessert... :)

That just allowed us to spread out the meal a bit longer. (G)

NB> NB>> Did it turn out to be more expensive than you'd expected... or
NB> about NB>> what you'd thought it would be...? It does sound like it
NB> might have NB>> been worth paying a little more, though, anyway...
 NB> :)

RH> It was a bit on the pricey side but we had both appetisers and
RH> desserts, something we don't usually do. Generally we skip one or the
RH> other, or both, but went all out this time.

NB> It being, after all, a special occasion... :)

Yes, we only celebrate our anniversary once a year. (G)

 RH> I wouldn't mind a meal of the avocado & shrimp salad--a larger portion.
RH> Only down side to that was that they left the shell on the tail and
RH> about 1/3 of the body. There's no way you can get it off without using
RH> your fingers unless you destroy the shrimp! I used my fork and one hand,
RH> left the other one clean but still, it would have been better had they
RH> peeled the whole shrimp, IMO.

NB> Perhaps I'm less couth than you... I figure if they leave the shell on
NB> partways, they expect you to grab it with your fingers... ;) One can
NB> hold by the tail, and bite at the top of the tail, not quite thru,
NB> just getting the meat loose, and use only one hand that way, too.
 NB> Plus,
NB> that's what napkins are for... after licking most of it off, of
NB> course... ;) For fancy, I suppose it would be nicer to peel more. :)
NB> When the shrimp is fried sufficiently, I'll just eat it peel and all,
NB> since the crunchy peel doesn't get stuck going down... ;)

These were boiled or steamed shrimp, in a salad so I expected them to
take the shell off completly. With the dressing, it was a bit messy to
get the last bit of meat out. That's why I started using the one hand
clean (with the fork), one hand dirty ( to hold the shrimp) technique a
long time ago. For a 4 star place, I should have thought they'd have
considered that.

NB> RH>> We split my dessert (peach streusel on yellow cake--on the dry
NB> side-- RH>> with brown sugar-maple ice cream--subbed for pistachio)
NB> and took Steve's RH>> home to split yesterday. He had a walnut cake
NB> in a pie crust with sour RH>> cherries on the side.
NB> NB>> Desserts sound pretty good, too. :)

RH> Of it all, I think the ice cream part of mine was the best. (G)

NB> Brown sugar-maple isn't a common flavor... did they make it there at
 NB> the restaurant...?

Yes, and I could have taken home a pint or quart if they sold it that
way. No mention of it and we had no way to keep it cold so I didn't ask.

NB> RH>> The menu was very
NB> RH>> limited but there was an extensive beer/wine listing that we
NB> ignored. NB>> Probably easier to get in the beverage selection than
NB> to offer lots of NB>> different food... I'd guess that the menu
NB> selection may expand in NB>> time, as they expand their clientele and
 NB> get more established. :)

RH> I think they've been around a while, just concentrating more on the
RH> alcohol than the food. They have a good sized bar but little seating
RH> otherwise. Some is outside but it wasn't a good night for sitting
 RH> outside.

NB> Some start as brewhouses, and add the food almost as an afterthought.
NB> With mostly outdoor seating, maybe they do more with food in the
NB> summer...? The German place in Canandaigua we talked about for one of
NB> your visits had easily as much seating outside as inside, too... I
NB> didn't pay any attention to their bar or alcoholic offerings, though,
NB> when I went there with my neighbor for lunch to check them out. I
NB> suspect that they've got an extensive beer list, too...

I have no idea how this place started but it has been around for a
while. It's located right near a college that up until last fall was a
girl's school only, then went co-ed, much to the dismay of a lot of
students and alumnae. They also changed the name from Peace College to
William Peace University......getting more pretentious. But, the
restaurant was pretty much unpretentious in appearance & the food was
good. Major thing that would keep us from going more often is the price.

Catch you later,
Ruth
