A couple of things. People could have mistaken a hormonal
outburst for enhancement surgery. The only person in my
high school who did better on the SATs than me was a cute,
flattish, somewhat self-effacing woman who suddenly at the
age of 18 grew a supergiant set that were absolutely perfect
in every way; she also became a rather brassy broad. Your
friend's wife of course was older than that when whatever
happened, but that would not be unheard of.

The other hormonal explanation would be that your friend's
wife's brain clicked in some funny way, and she became the
brassy broad before going off and getting the surgery.

Cultural. The Japanese even have chicken sashimi (though
relatively few eat it). For me, bloody around the bones
means moist and delicious. Raw I'm a little leery of, but
weren't we all cautioned about raw or underdone poultry.
Speaking of which, my friend Ella got a grandson named Sam.
No kidding.

Bloody Monster's Fingers Cookies
cat: Halloween, cookies
yield: 1 batch

1 lb pk refrigerated sugar or peanut butter cookie dough
3/4 c whole blanched, honey roasted or sliced almonds
1 tube red decorator gel

Heat oven to 350F. Divide the dough into quarters. Work
with one-fourth of the dough at a time, keep remaining
dough refrigerated. For each cookie, roll heaping
teaspoons of dough into 2 1/2" finger shape. Place on
ungreased cookie sheets, 2" apart.

Press almond, into one end of each "finger" to look like
fingernail, about 1" from each end of each finger. Gently
make lines in dough to look like knuckles. Chill in
freezer until firm, about 15 to 20 min.

Bake 10 to 12 min or until set. Cool 1 min. Squeeze red
decorator gel around the nail bed, so that gel oozes;
remove from cookie sheet to cooling rack. Cool
completely, about 15 min.
