In the deep south the comments would be "Isn't that special?" and/or "Bless
your heart". The first example below is very poorly done up. And the second is
a very poor example of a Mexicali Casserole. I'm not a fan of tamales in
general and Hormel or Old El Paso, etc. canned tamales even less so. I suspect,
however, that you may have chosen the recipe because of my oft repeated dislike
of hominy in any key including grits.

And Vienna sausages from a can are nearly as high on my list as Hormel Chilli.

This is a much better Mexicali Casserole and budget stretcher ......

MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.06

      Title: Mexicali Casserole
 Categories: Pasta, Beef, Vegetables, Cheese, Dairy
      Yield: 8 servings

      2 c  Elbow macaroni; cooked,
           - drained
    1/2 ts Olive oil
      1 lb Ground beef
    1/2 c  Chopped onion
    1/2 c  Chopped bell pepper
      2 tb Taco seasoning mix (1 pkt)
     15 oz Can dark red kidney beans;
           - undrained
     16 oz (2 cans) tomato sauce
    1/4 c  Milk; room temp
  2 1/2 c  Grated Cheddar; divided use

  Preheat oven to 375øF/190øC. 

  Prepare a 2 quart casserole dish with cooking spray; set
  aside.

  In a skillet, heat oil over medium heat. Add turkey,
  onions, and bell peppers. Cook until turkey is no longer
  pink and vegetables are tender.

  Stir in taco seasoning mix, dark red kidney beans, and
  tomato sauce. Reduce heat and simmer, uncovered for 5
  minutes; set aside.

  Return hot macaroni to saucepan. Stir in milk and 2 cups
  cheddar cheese. Layer half the macaroni and half turkey
  mixture in prepared pan. Repeat layers.

  Bake, uncovered, for 20 minutes or until heated through.

  Top with remaining 1/2 cup cheddar cheese.

  Bake, uncovered again, for 3 minutes or until cheese
  has melted.

  Servings: 8
