There is a wide variety of "loyalty" cards. My employer Auto-Zone has one they
call a rewards card. And it's a excellent deal for someone who does their own
repairs/enhancements or maintains a "family fleet". Spend twenty bucks (before
tax) in an Auto Zone and they put a point on your card. Get five points and
Auto Zone gives you a twenty dollar in-store credit. When they first instituted
that program - and before they fine-tuned it due to an abuse that I was witness
to several customers did right well. 

One toots (the abuser and by no stretch of the imagination a lady) had worked
at the Zone and was married to a guy who was running a "shade-tree" operation
out of his garage and back yard. When she came to pick up parts she would
separate the purchases into $20 (as near as she could get) piles and get a
point on the card for each pile. Sometimes it took over an hour just to get her
checked out. But, she managed to accumulate enough "points" to buy a crate
engine for her Chevy Blazer - saving around U$1900.

This is the main reason that only three reward points per day are allowed. And
purchases must be separated by at least three hours to earn a point. But, it's
a good deal overall for the average customer.

I have cards with the three major office/technology retailers (Staples, Office
Depot, and Office Max). Of the three Office Max does it best - actually giving
in-store credits (similar to the Auto Zone plan but tied to specific items, not
amounts) instead of general mail-in rebates. Wegmans programme sounds similar
to that of Office Max - I get e-mails with 20% off coupons for nearly anything
in store or on-line. And card holders get free delivery of on-line purchases at
a lower threshold than Joe Off-The-Street.

I tell people - I go where I get service with a smile. If a place doesn't take
care of its customers it won't have them long.  Bv)=

MMMMM----- Recipe via Meal-Master (tm) v8.06

      Title: Divine Venus Clams
 Categories: Seafood, Vegetables, Chilies, Wine
      Yield: 2 servings

    500 g  Venus Clams
      3 cl Garlic
      2    Red chilies; stemmed, seeded
           Handful coriander; chopped
      6 oz White wine
      2 tb Oil
  
  Serve with bread.

  Wash the Venus Clams a few times; or let them rest for a
  while in water (or in wine) to get the sand out.

  Slice the garlic gloves and pepper them.

  Heat up the oil in a pan with a lid; Put the garlic,
  pepper, clams and glass of wine in. Shake the clams
  frequently until the clams are open.

  Throw in the coriander and shake the clams one more time.

  Serve with (French/Turkish) bread for the moist-dipping.

  Serves two
