====================================================================
Hi Dave,

RH> DD> It's somewhat easier for me, I suppose. But, it still took some
RH> DD> doing to get to the place I am now. Plus, I don't have family
RH> DD> scattered over nearly all of creation. Most of my friends and
RH> DD> all my family are within 50 miles. And I get my SS cheque just
RH> DD> once a month. But, the

RH> Closest family member to us is probably my cousin up in State
RH> College, PA. Friends are scattered all over the world. (G)

DD> Furthest away family member (of those I keep track of) is Georgia (<50
DD> miles away) in Beardstown - the pork processing capitol of Illinois.

Any update on how she's doing? Back still giving her trouble or did she
get it taken care of?

RH> DD> paydays from the job I took to eke out the Social Security
RH> DD> money roll around every second Friday. That helps.

RH> Only income for us right now is Steve's military
RH> retirement/disability. Not enough to get rich on but we're paying
RH> the bills and eating.

DD> Nobody promised that any of us would get rich in money. And I could
DD> have made much, much more money in my life if that was what I was all
DD> about. As it is I've pretty much done what I wanted for work and
DD> enjoyed doing it. Which counts for a lot.

I know, we've no intention of hitting the big lottery pay off and
retiring to whereever, with a house full of servants. But, we've had fun
on the ride so far, bouncing around the world with the Army, being in on
a a part of history, etc. Learned about lots of new to us foods from the
latter, probably never would have gotten to try kim chee had we stayed
in Swansboro forever.

DD> Oddly to many, these three weeks off work had me chomping at the bit
DD> to get back to my gig. I went in yesterday for a short (4 hour) shift
DD> and was helping a customer before I was even on the clock. Felt
 DD> good.

It usually does feel good to get back into your "normal" routine,
especially after an unplanned leave of absence.

RH> RH> DD> third world country. I have no idea if that is, in fact,
RH> RH> DD> true. But, it makes me feel better about myself.

RH> RH> That's always a good feeling.

RH> DD> Which, combined with the buck-fifty I lost buying the Marie
RH> DD> Callender will get a cuppa in many places. Bv)=

RH> Coffee for you, tea for me. (G)

RH> DD> The Raisin Sour Cream Pie was always my favorite pie to
RH> DD> order at Marie Callender's. Here's a recipe I have had
RH> DD> around for years, I've never tried making it since I'm the
RH> DD> only one in the family that likes Raisin Sour Cream Pie.

RH> Looks like it's a PA Dutch thing.

DD> Which is odd. Marie Callender's is a SunnySoCal originated firm. From
DD> the web site: "It all started with dessert. The legacy of Marie
DD> Callender began in the early 1940s in Orange County, California, when
DD> Marie, an accomplished baker, first launched her legendary pie
DD> business, delivering freshly baked pies to area restaurants."

Makes you sort of wonder what her family heritage was. Did she have
ancestors with PA Dutch backgrounds and that pie passed down as a family
favorite? Did she see the recipe in a cook book and give it a try on a
whim? Sometimes the back story can be interesting on how a product comes
on to the market.

Catch you later,
Ruth
