DD> Her back will *always* give her trouble since by the time it was

RH> Too bad, had it been caught earlier, she might have gotten some relief.
RH> Steve didn't putz around when his back really started giving him

 RH> quite well, overall.

The odyssey began when she was in her 20s and this butcher claiming to be an
orthopedist fused some bones in her foot - causing her to walk "funny" and
beginning back pain. This masked the degenerative disc thing for quite some
time. Georgia underwent some fusions but they did little to solve the overall
problem. The disc replacement deal is fairly recent - a technique developed in
Israel and refined in France - and by the time it was available it was already
too late for her -- but, not for her daughter.

RH> Did she have the spinal fusion like Steve did?

See above.

DD> If I hit the lottery for a goodly sum (north of a couple million) I

RH> An unlisted number, I presume? since I don't play the tax on the

I disagree that it's a tax on the stupid. Many who play the lottery realise, as
I do, that the odds of substantial pay-off are astronomical. But, if it hits -
yippee! And I never play more than I can afford. What I spend on lottery
tickets is about the amount I'd be spending on tobacco were I still committing
slow suicide. And it's better for me than huffing poison into my lungs.

RH> DD> The Raisin Sour Cream Pie was always my favorite pie to
 RH> DD> order at Marie Callender's. Here's a recipe I have had
RH> DD> around for years, I've never tried making it since I'm the
RH> DD> only one in the family that likes Raisin Sour Cream Pie.

RH> Looks like it's a PA Dutch thing.

DD> Which is odd. Marie Callender's is a SunnySoCal originated firm. From
DD> the web site: "It all started with dessert. The legacy of Marie
DD> Callender began in the early 1940s in Orange County, California, when
DD> Marie, an accomplished baker, first launched her legendary pie
DD> business, delivering freshly baked pies to area restaurants."

RH> Makes you sort of wonder what her family heritage was. Did she have
RH> ancestors with PA Dutch backgrounds and that pie passed down as a
RH> family favorite? Did she see the recipe in a cook book and give it a
RH> try on a whim? Sometimes the back story can be interesting on how a
RH> product comes on to the market.

DD> I have no idea. And she is long in the ground. There is a web site
DD> which may give more information. www.mariecallenders.com

RH> For me to peruse in all my spare time.

Of which you, no doubt, have copious amounts, being an empty nester and stay at
home wife. Bv)=

And yes, I know. But that was said facetiously.

 DD> Title: Marie Callender's Cornbread
 DD> Categories: Breads, Dairy
 DD> Yield: 6 servings

 DD> 1 c Flour
 DD> 1 c Cornmeal
 DD> 2/3 c Sugar
 DD> 1 ts Salt
 DD> 3 ts Baking powder
 DD> 1 lg Egg
 DD> 1 c Milk
 DD> 1/3 c Oil

RH> She wasn't a deep south cook, that's for sure! Enough sugar in there to
RH> get my teeth itching; it's a corn cake, not corn bread recipe.

In my experience southern cooks use a lot more sugar in things like that than
normal people.
