That works...  :)  Especially if one brings along some crackers to eat
with...  :)  I tend to use regular Wheat Thins nowadays, and just use
them to scoop out the bits of sardine.  Daddy used to place them on the
saltines and then toast them in the (old style) toaster oven.  You'd put
the bread (or the crackers with stuff on them, cheese was another usual,
or a bit of butter then a piece of marshmallow) on the tray, and slide
it into the rectangular open-ended box that was the toaster... more like
a broiler...

I also get the canned eel in hot sauce, from the asian market... not at
all the same as eel on/in sushi, or teriyaki eel either, but quite nice
on its own, just for snacking, or for tossing into congee as one of many
ingredients..  ;)

No particular order here, either... partly seasonal, partly sales,
partly "ya know, we haven't had in a while" whatever...  :)   Or, what
do I have in the fridge that's quick to fix tonight...  (G)
