Is there a rule that says that the project has to have been made within
a certain time frame...?

I had to grow into a few tastes... and there are a few things that I
used to be rather fond of at one time that I'm not at all attracted to
anymore...  ;)  I'm usually open to new tastes... some of which become
lifetime favorites thereafter...  :)
