NB>> My glove box has mostly maps in it... ;) Gloves are in the coat pocket

NB>> pack of bulbs in there, btw, but it was for something else... ;)

DD> When I got this latest Benz I opened the glove box to put my insurance

IF, and that's a BIG if, any car of ours made it to being resold as
used (since we will run a car to the bitter end generally), it likely
would have had similar. Certainly the owner's manual, which doesn't
leave the glove box until we scrap the car, and probably the more recent
service receipts (the records are in their own little notebook and/or
recorded in some part of the owners manual books), would be in there.
I'd have been glad to get the service records and receipts for my
current car, the first we bought used for me... if only to find out
where the first owner had been getting it serviced, since he wasn't
using the dealership... :)

DD> everything else got donated to the bin to help my trash-man with his
DD> incipient hernia. The manual came in very handy as there are bells and
DD> whistles on this thing that are still being discovered from time to
 DD> time.

I can imagine... isn't bells and whistles part of the definition of Benz
or BMW...? (our son has a Beemer he got used) (G)

NB>> And I noted YK Jim mentioning the concentrations of auto places... we
NB>> have that too, One major one being West Henrietta Road, where there
NB>> are many dealerships, owned by a few different outfits, along an about
NB>> two/three mile stretch of road... One can do a fair bit of "window
NB>> shopping" for a new car in a fairly short time... :)

DD> We have two separate "Murderer's Row" car dealership areas here. The
DD> Green Hyundai dealership has two locations on the east side along with
DD> the Buick/GMC dealer and the Volvo/Isuzu dealer all of which are in the
DD> midst of a gang of conventional used car dealers and buy-here/pay-here
DD> leeches. On the west side are all the other new car dealers in two
DD> bunches - one owned by "Green Family Stores" which includes Dodge,
DD> Toyota, Scion, Nissan, VW, Subaru, Kia and stretches for three traffic
DD> lights along a busy thoroughfare. The balance (Chevrolet, Honda,
DD> Chrysler/Jeep/Fiat, Ford,) just south the the Meijer Superstore. And a
DD> Lincoln/Mazda (also owned by Green Family) hung out on the south side -
DD> where a China-Mart, ALDI and Golden Corral have sprung up.

Most of those used car places here are within the city limits, or just
outside them, not counting the ones attached to the new car dealerships.
I'm not even sure I know where all the new car dealership concentrations
are here... I know of another big clump up in Greece, and I think there
are similar in some of the other suburbs, but as I'm not often quite
where they are, I don't pay that much attention to them... Once upon a
time, there was a major clump of them just north of right downtown, well
withing the city limits... I bought my very first car from one of those.

And, too, I've noticed that the dealership clumps do seem to also have
stores and eateries in the same general vicinity... :)

DD> I still miss the long-defunct downtown area of my town where one could
DD> take the city bus from home, get fed, go to a movie, clothe his naked
DD> arse, buy yard goods for sowing, appliances, etc. And then go home on
DD> the same bus later in the day. Now the buses go there. And you can get
DD> a nosh and a drink. But you're going to have to head for the outskirts
DD> for all your other shopping and/or a movie. My (former) city fathers
DD> and their owners have a lot to answer for.

Yeah... similar story here... Downtown here has evolved into a cultural
center here, though, with Eastman School of Music and Hochstein School
of Music within the inner loop, along with many concert and theater
venues, as well as clubs and eateries. And (almost all) the buses go
through downtown... :) There's even some somewhat reasonable parking,
on-street and in ramp garages... :) But most of the shopping is still
out in the suburbs, and of what little is in the city proper still less
can be found downtown... Sigh...
