RH> RH> I never used to like Crest (or the A&P version that my parents
RH> RH> got to save money). Changed my mind on it over the years when I
RH> RH> couldn't get Colgate sometimes at the PX or commissary in
RH> RH> Germany. Now I alternate, using Sensodine in the morning and
RH> RH> Crest or Colgate for sensitive teeth in the evening per my
RH> RH> dentist's recommendation.

RH> DD> I will soon be using Polident exclusively. Bv)= And maybe
RH> DD> doing Gabby Hayes impressions.

RH> I presume they were one of his spnsors?

You never watched old Roy Rogers shows? Or any of a lot of B-Westerns?

George "Gabby" Hayes - "American character actor, the most famous of
Western-movie sidekicks of the 1930s and 1940s. He was born May 7, 1885,
the third of seven children, in the Hayes Hotel (owned by his father) in
the tiny hamlet of Stannards, New York, on the outskirts of Wellsville,
New York." http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0371025/bio

He was best known as an irascible, toothless older dude. (sounds a lot
like what I will be when I get the last of those naturals yanked). He
made a lot of money with his teeth out. And in the few roles in which he
had his China Clippers in - he was nearly unrecognisable. A ploy which
was used in one of his Gene Autry flicks (he was Autry's side-kick
before Pat Buttram) when he needed to go under cover to spy on the
baddies. So, they dressed him in a suit and he put his teeth in and was
unrecognisable ... really.

RH> RH> RH> Got some fatback yesterday, will try rendering it in the
RH> RH> RH> (baby) crock pot tomorrow.

RH> RH> DD> Good luck. Rendered leaf lard is the preferred lard for
RH> RH> DD> pastry - but, lard can be rendered from fatback/salt pork.
RH> RH> DD> Sort of like kidney suet is the preferred beef fat - but
RH> RH> DD> any beef fat can be rendered.

RH> RH> It worked--not the whitest but got lard. Now to make some pies
RH> RH> and/or biscuits!

RH> DD> Well, it's not as highly processed as the stuff down the
RH> DD> stupormarkup, is it?

RH> Nope, still haven't used it yet, trying to decide on what kind of a
RH> pie to make with it. Maybe a turkey pot pie, use up some of the odds
RH> & ends of turkey and frozen veggies we've got on hand.

I was at the semi-warehouse store across the street to pick up some El
Pato tomato sauce for something I am making later in the week. And there
in the Mexican aisle among the La Costena sauces, La Preferida chilies,
etc. was a stack of 2 1/2 kg (5 lb) pails of lard. Someone in the buying
department knows his Mexican grub - or is Hispanic his own self. Bv)=

MMMMM

Somehow I knew you'd not want to use white flour. Bv)= OTOH, it
doesn't bother me on way or the other. I've made that recipe without the
sugar and it's not as good to my taster. And I generally use buttermilk
if I have it to hand as the liquid in the first recipe.

ENJOY!!!
