Morgan tasting room (all wines 2010)

The father of one of our friends had had a deli or something
near here, so of course we felt obligated to visit that holy
site and (coincidentally) hit the tasting room down the way.
This immediately after our visit to the much more crowded
Talbott tasting room previously described here.

A smoothly professional operation but friendly, with some of
the other patrons having obviously spent considerable time
here already (and not having spat). Both comfy and uncomfy
chairs and a table with lots of reading material for those
not interested in partaking. Unfortunately, most of the
reading material is about wine as well.

Sauvignon Blanc - the good thing about this was there wasn't
that grating acidy urinary taste; the bad thing was that it
reminded me of pears and soap;

R&D Franscioni Pinot Gris - nice and crisp, pears and apples,
a thoroughly pleasant quaffing wine;

Metallico Chardonnay - very fruit-forward, tropical, citrus,
stone, what have you; not what I think of from the grape,
but I guess fermentation in metal and no added oak will do
this for you;

Highland Chardonnay - as it had some oak and not so much
the exaggerated fruit, I preferred this by a fair margin:
still plenty fruity, less tropical than the above;

Double L Riesling - too sweet for food, too dry for just
knocking back a bottle, I don't think this wine knew what
it wanted to do; a resemblance in aroma to Dawn dish
detergent didn't help too much;

Cotes du Crow's Syrah - not unpleasant, a bit on the acid
side, coffee and plums;

Double L Pinot Noir - relatively spicy; a bit on the acid
side as well. Dark plummy purply color and flavor. Very
good, but I think I preferred the balance of the following;

Rosella's Pinot Noir - more understated than the above with
similar dark fruits coming out after a while; equally dark
in color and perhaps darker in flavor too;

Lee Family Farm Rose - I wasn't going to try these, but
someone convinced me I should give them a fair shake, so I
did. They're not my style, but this was not unpleasant,
with berries and tropical fruits a la very light Pinot and
a not overcloying sweetness;

Lee Family Farm Rio Tinto - yeah, this too was okay, but
certainly not my style; coffee and vanilla and a somewhat
cooked or overripe fruitiness.

At this point my taste buds gave up; some of us continued
to taste, as they were doing free pour by now. I retreated
to the sofa and aimlessly perused Wine Spectator until
they were ready. Not that I didn't enjoy the visit - I did,
and the wines were surprisingly close in value to the
Talbotts - but I was just ODed.
