W32/Rbot-TD spreads to network shares with weak passwords as a result of
the backdoor Trojan element receiving the appropriate commands from a
remote user.

When first run the worm copies itself to the Windows system folder using
a randomly generated filename and creates the following registry entries
so as to auto-start on user logon or computer reboot:

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
vb6
<filename>

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunServices
vb6
<filename>

HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

W32/Rbot-TD may set the following registry entries:

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Ole
EnableDCOM
N

HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa
restrictanonymous

Prevalence (1-5) 2

Description
W32/Sdbot-SW is a worm which attempts to spread to remote network
shares. It also contains backdoor Trojan functionality, allowing
unauthorised remote access to the infected computer via IRC channels
while running in the background as a service process.

Advanced
W32/Sdbot-SW is a worm which attempts to spread to remote network
shares. It also contains backdoor Trojan functionality, allowing
unauthorised remote access to the infected computer via IRC channels
while running in the background as a service process.

W32/Sdbot-SW drops two files to the folder C:\WinNT\system32. One is
dropped as HB90HGF3.EXE and is detected as W32/Sdbot-SW, the other is
dropped as SYSEDITS.EXE and is a corrupt file that will not run.

The file dropped as HB90HGF3.EXE copies itself to APPNV.EXE in the
Windows system folder and creates entries in the registry at the
following locations to run this copy on system startup:

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\RunServices
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

W32/Sdbot-SW spreads to network shares with weak passwords and via
network security exploits as a result of the backdoor Trojan element
receiving the appropriate command from a remote user, spreading by
copying the file NVAPPSW.EXE from the Windows system folder (which
should be the original W32/Sdbot-SW dropper file) to the remote machine.

Description
W32/Agobot-OV is a network worm with IRC backdoor functionality.

Once installed, W32/Agobot-OV connects to a preconfigured IRC server,
joins a channel and awaits further instructions. These instructions can
cause the bot to perform any of the following actions:

start a UDP, TCP, ICMP, syn, http or ping flood
start a socks4, socks5, http or https proxy server
redirect TCP or GRE connections
start an FTP server
start a command shell server
show statistics about the infected system
reboot/shutdown the infected machine
kill anti-virus and security processes
list/terminate running processes
scan randomly- or sequentially-chosen IPs for infectable machines
make local drives network-shareable
close down vulnerable services in order to secure the machine
search for product keys
search local drives for AOL user details
sniff network traffic in order to find passwords
start a keylogger
download and install an updated version of itself
install bot plugins for additional functionality

The worm spreads to machines affected by known vulnerabilities, running
network services protected by weak passwords or infected by common
backdoor Trojans.

W32/Agobot-OV adds 127.0.0.1 (loopback) entries to the Windows HOSTS

When run, W32/Bobax-D creates a helper dll in the temp folder with a
random name. When the dll is loaded the executable component copies
itself to the Windows system folder under a random name.

This dll is injected into Explorer as a separate thread, so is not
visible as a separate process.

The worm listens on a randomly chosen tcp port which the worm then
includes in outbound traffic so infected systems can connect back.

W32/Bobax-D also carries an email relay module, allowing infected
computers to be used for transmission of unsolicited emails.

W32/Bobax-D will also attempt to disable the Microsoft Windows firewall.

Advanced
W32/Rbot-TF is a worm for the Windows platform that provides
unauthorised remote access to the infected computer through an IRC
channels.

W32/Rbot-TF spreads using a variety of techniques including exploiting
weak password on computers and SQL servers, exploiting operating system
vulnerabilites (including DCOM-RPC, LSASS, WebDAV and UPNP) and using
backdoors opened by other worms or Trojans.

For details about these vulnerabilities see following Microsoft Bulletin
articles: MS04-011, MS03-039, MS03-007 and MS01-059.

When first executed W32/Rbot-TF copies itself to the Windows system
folder with the filename wuaruclt.exe, and in order to be able to run
automatically when Windows starts up sets the registry entries:

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\
*windows update
"wuaruclt.exe"

W32/Rbot-TF can be controlled by a remote attacker over IRC channels.
The backdoor component can be instructed to perform the following
functions:

start a portscanner
start a web/ftp server
start a proxy server (SOCKS4)
allow remote shell access (RLOGIN)
take part in distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks
download/execute arbitrary files
capture keypresses
report system information (file/process listings, hardware
specifications)
send email
create screen/webcam captures

W32/Rbot-TF also modifies the following registry entries:

HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Ole\EnableDCOM = "N"
HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa\restrictanonymous = dword:00000001
