I am afraid that there are many of them. Many shameless retellers and
translators made their own versions of the book. Russian readers also know
only a castrated version of Peter Pan. The main reason, imho, that  they
wanted to translate it as a book for children, although it is a brilliant
style book for grown-ups. I imagine as in one art gallery a huge and
beautiful  picture was presented, picturing a fairy tale subject. Although
nobody had said that this picture was for children some guys decided that it
is too big and complicated for children. And they made castrated small
copies for them. The same was in Russia - instead of a brilliant Russian
people unfortunately have just a glassy trifle. Of course if the thing was
brilliant it would remain some charm, but I have a heart pain when compare
the Russian translation of Peter Pan and the original.
