Remember, I am using FD 2.33.mL, so the commands MAY be different, but I
doubt it. Here's an old email about it as well.

 TMJ> Is there a way for FD to dial say "1:2610/33" with
 TMJ> "ttb.dyn.ml.org"

yep... two methods are available in FD v2.30... choose one and enjoy <<G>>

1. use a script file similar to this... (added bonus, this script also shows
how to dial more than one number for the same node <G>)... don't forget to
adjust your ROUTE.FD file for that node... the line would look similar to
this...

     script inetlink 1:3651/9

here's the script...

=== snip ===
; inetlink.scr
; Sample Script to call Boss on more than one phonenumber
;                 (courtesy Jan Orsel)
; modified to use internet domain names
; on OS/2 system using SIO and VMODEM,
;                  #somedomain.com uses vmodem protocol
;                   somedomain.com uses telnet protocol
; ^ note no # on this one...

retrycount 15 ;Exit script after more than 15 retries.
timerset 100 ;Set timeout to 100 seconds

:node1
wait        2
display     Dialing techshop.pdn.net
dial techshop.pdn.net ;Phonenumber for node 1
case
            CONNECT       : session
            BUSY          : >node2
            "NO CARRIER"  : >node2
            "NO DIAL"     : >node2
            @DEFAULT      : fail
endcase

:node2
wait 2
display     Dialing ppp68.pdn.net
dial ppp68.pdn.net ;Phonenumber for node 2
case
            CONNECT       : session
            BUSY          : >node1
            "NO CARRIER"  : >node1
            "NO DIAL"     : >node1
            @DEFAULT      : fail
endcase

;end of script
=== snip ===

the other method involves a bit more but offers a lot more functionality and a
definite eye to the future of fidonet and being able to use FD with the
internet...

2. first some entries in FDNODE.CTL... and then i also put some entries in the
modem manager in FDSETUP...

=== snip ===
DIAL       /  011-

;internet stuff
  #           internet
  0000-       internet/:155
  V           internet#

; The above would translate the raw number "#2-2-2-0" to "2.2.2.0",
;  "0000-2-2-2-0" to "2.2.2.0:155", and "V2-2-2-0" to "#2.2.2.0".

;local numbers
; 1-803-395-2165 internettechshop.pdn.net    ; telnet
  1-803-395-2165 internet#techshop.pdn.net   ; vmodem
                 ; see info further in message
END

COST 25 200 ; Default: 25 units for domestic calls
                   ; Default: 200 units for international calls

; internet translated costs - cost 0 for all ;-)
  #                 0
  V                 0
  internet          0

; The cost of these three cases will be 0, and *not* based on the
; original number's prefix (as is normally the case for the cost table).
END
=== snip ===

the entries i put in the modem manager for my internet tasks are as follows...

=== snip ===
ÉÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍÍ Modem control, MODEM11.FD »
º #   String to match     String to send/Action                      º
ºÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄÄĺ
º 1 1:3651/9 (Stop scanning and proceed with call) º
º 2   >0                  (Do not dial)                              º
º                                                                    º
=== snip ===

with the above, each node that i want to allow calls to go out to i put above
line 2 just like line 1... line 2 prevents my internet only nodes from trying
to dial normal phone numbers over the internet... the above may not be needed
in the future if fidonet can get together and get the nodelist format adjusted
so we can put internet 'numbers' (ip addresses or domain names) in the
nodelist...

ok, some explanation is also needed for the internet translation stuff... if
the nodelist contains #, 0000-, or V at the beginning of the phone number,
THEN that translation stuff will be made. since you are using a "fake
nodelist", you can use that method...

in my case, however, i'm translating the raw phone number directly to the
internet form... internetblahblahblah is the telnet form, and in
ernet#blahblahblah is the vmodem form... other virtual modem drivers may have
other protocols they support or they may use different characters to choose
between them and so they should be able to be translated here...

one nice this to note is that my internet nodes will contact 1:3651/9 via the
domain number and my normal dialup nodes are still able to contact 1:3651/9
via landline dialing... to prevent my dialup nodes from calling 1:3651/9
unless i really want to use the LD lines, i set that ROUTE.FD file to hold all
mail for that node...

in any case, the above is my setup as it has been working here since this toy
was introduced to us... occasionally i switch over to using the script i
posted first. this because the system i feed from has more than one node and
ip available and the script affords me the capability to be a bit more
creative when necessary ;-)
