I am not familiar with the acronym.  I have seen it several times
lately, but never knew what it meant.

I guess in that respect, it is much the same.  Bell owns the lines,
but, they are required to resell to other providers at a discount
(wholesale price I guess <G>).  I hear that is changing in the USA
though.  The provider I am with, is wholy owned by Bell Telephone, so
in effect they are also my ISP.

Unlike in Europe, we do not have free Satelite here. (unless you
pirate the signal <G>).  I cant remember the name of the sat now that
I used to watch while in Germany, but at the time being ignorant on
coverage, I looked into seeing if I could get it here.  Not possible
of course.

Yes, and when I ask when we can purchase our own dsl modem, I keep
getting told they are considering it.  They have been 'considering' it
for 5 years now <G>.

True enough, but, when the help desks tell me it is impossible to do
certain things, and I ask them how come I have been doing it for the
last several years, they are speechless.  The prepared text does not
tell them <G>.  I also hate having to go thru all their diagonostics
lists, because I have already done so, bujt they 'can't' help me until
I do so.  Now I just pretend to go through those diagnostics <G>
