That may be so in your neck of the woods, over here that certainly is not true.
It certainly did not hold for net 500. The first net outside the US. The net
was owned by the Dutch Hobby Computer Club. They owned the echos and they
appointed the moderators. Same for another Cost Sharing Organisation.

No, he is not.

Taking polls among the users never was a generally recognised method of
determining what the origin of an echo is.

See? This "respecting" the rules of the originating zone" does not work.

It has been long standing tradition that the Fidonews editor is also the
moderator of the FIDONEWS echo. The current FidoNews editor is Björn Felten of
2:203/0 and so he is the moderator of this echo. He got both positions because
the previous editor - Frank Vest - handed them over to him. Accepting a
moderator on appointment by his predecessor is also long standing tradition. By
all rules and traditions Björn Felten is the moderator of the FidoNews echo.

Also it is tradition in Z2 - formalised in EP1 - that as long as a moderator
posts monthly rules and fulfils his other duties, he remains moderator until he
either voluntarily gives up the position or he is is set out of office by the
*EC's outlined by the procedure in EP1.

Neither has happened, so by all the rules and traditions Björn Felten is still
the moderator of the FIDONEWS echo.

But... respecting those rules and traditions does not result in an outcome that
suits your agenda. So the heck with Z2 traditions and out of the hat comes a Z1
rule: The moderator is the one listed in the echolist.

See that this doesn't work?

How can you ask others to respect another zone's rules and traditions when at
the very first instance we try to apply it, you reject all the rules and
traditions and you place your own rule above it?

What Jack Yates did is exactly what Bob Moravsik did with te ZCC_PUBLIC echo.
And obviously you support it.

Respecting each other's zones rules and traditions? My foot! You will only do
that when it suits your agenda. If not you will twist and turn until you get
your way anyway.
