That's very doubtful.  Here's a little incident I was involved 
in, in Montreal exactly 64 years ago this month.  Three of us 
(late teenagers) drove into Canada on a vacation trip.  The U.S. 
was not yet in the war but Canada, of course. was.
  
Unbeknownst to two of us the third guy planned joining the Royal 
Canadian Air Force.   We reached Montreal.  The next morning the 
third guy, call him "Al" was missing.  Two of us went looking for 
him.  We found Al in line in a RCAF recruiting office.  The two 
of us *literally* dragged Al from the recruiting office -- no one 
tried stopping us.  Out of the office he got away from us and we 
spent an hour or so driving around the Montreal business section 
looking for him.  Finally we trapped him in an alley and 
convinced him he should return home with us.

I was *extremely* alert to what went on in the European war for I 
expected to be drafted and sucked into it.  Then the Japs bombed 
Pearl Harbor and Hitler declared war on us.  From that time one I 
supported the war 100%.

We lived and breathed that damned war both *before* the US got 
into it and afterwards.
