I tried many *scores* of ways of quitting but never that deadline 
thing.   All of my methods failed and, in the process, I think I 
became the World's Champion Failed Smoking-Quitter.  Finally I 
came up with a technique that worked ... in a way *I* too had a 
deadline.  Here's what I told myself:  "I won't quit *forever* 
but just until I'm 70 years old when I'll take it up again.  
That's about the end of life anyway."  

So I did that, but as I approached age 70 I began to get nervous.  
I found I didn't *want* to resume smoking ... so I didn't ... heh 
heh heh ...

I'm convinced you *have* to, somehow, talk yourself into it.  
Your method worked for you.  Maybe it will work for others.  
Fortunately I have no need of any technique for stopping ...

My case was different than that.  I found each day I hadn't 
smoked became easier ... after about one month I think I had 
kicked the habit.  I *know* I've kicked it now, because while I 
still like the aroma of tobacco (when in the presence of smokers) 
there's not even the *slightest* temptation for me to light up.

I think the important contribution here is that you can fail 
time-after-time (as I did) and *still*, one day, succeed.  So she 
should keep trying.

... "Priceless" is the same as "worthless?"
