Her max speed is nearly the same as the Bismarcks. Bismarck, 30 knots, vs
Hood's 30 to 31 knots. And she had twice the boilers and one more turbine
than Bismarck, not to mention 1100 more hp ... still she couldn't keep up
because Bismarck and Prinz xxxx, had passed them already. Hood was playing
catch up when she was hit and destroyed.

Hood wouldn't have stood a chance even if she could have come about
broadside of Bismarck. She was just too outgunned. Those shells I mention
above were made to pierce thick armour like Hood's. Meanwhile, she didn't
have enough firepower to do any good.

Bismarck had thick KC belt armour and to back that up, Bismarck had a KC
armour deck that was 110 to 120mm thick that angled from the lower portion
of the 320mm belt below the water line by 22 degrees to the armour deck
(aka Turtle Deck). If any of Hood's weapons hit and penetrated that belt,
it would most likely bounce up and over the armour deck. But more than
likely, they would have been stopped by the armour belt.

It took nearly 100 vessels to get involved to take out the Bismarck...Not
all of them British though. About 17 or 18 U-boats, a couple of Aircraft
carriers, etc...Even the aircraft aboard the two carriers stayed out of
the way because there was just too much firepower on the ocean.

Did you know that those 15 inch guns on the Bismarck could also be used to
shoot at aircraft...imagine a 15 inch flak shell exploding within a 300
yard radius of those little airplanes.
