Ärende: Moderating
==================
 PS> What is the difference between acting on a complaint and
 PS> not acting on
 PS> a complaint,

The moderator contacts me as A sysOp... tells me a user of my system has
violated rules of an echo... I look into it, then address the user of my system
thusly:

<warning>
:The moderator of the "xxx" echo has contacted me and told me that you have
acted in a manner which violates the rules of that echo. I have examined the
sittuation and found that you have done so. I am going to ask you one time to
cease that type of activity in that echo. I am now, immediately after sending
this message to you, going to contact the moderator of that echo, via netmail,
with a copy of this
message I have sent you.

As per the complaint of the moderator of "xxx" echo, I find that you have
violated the rules of that echo, and you are now warned that if further actions
of this nature continue on your part, if so requested by the moderator, your
access to that echo on this BBS will be suspended.

I have very simple rules on this BBS, and you have violated them. In addition
to severing your access to one echo, let me make it clear that if this is to be
a repeated behavior of yours in any other echoes, or portion of this BBS, the
possibilty of severing your access to the BBS in total does exist.

I hope I am not sounding to harsh, however, in order for me to provide BBS
users like you access to the FidoNet network, I am under certain guidelines
which I must follow. Rather than put my status in FidoNet in jeapordy, I will
abide by these guidelines and adjust your access as needed. I will not allow
one user on *MY* BBS to ruin it for anybody else.

I hope you understand, and that further measures will not be required:
</warning>

THAT, is taking action on the part of the BBS SysOp... and if the user does not
comply, cutting their access to the echo is further action.

 PS> and if the SysOp is not responsabile for
 PS> mail originating
 PS> from his/her system, why does a moderator usually contact
 PS> the SysOp
 PS> about a complaint they may have about a user on the
 PS> SysOps system ?

NOW... you get ot it... "why does the moderator usually contact the Sysop"...
(???)

To let the SysOp -know- there is a problem that needs addressing. You're from
Z3, yet you ask "why does the moderator usually contact the SysOp, etc..." I
guess it was, or is, done that way there too... otherwise the idea of it would
have never crossed your mind. Aint it funny... lay a peaice of rope out, and
the ones who yell loudly may not find it, but a good fellow like you may come
across it and find out what it was there for :)

Phil
