There are many areas throughout America where they've incorporated 'red
light' camaras though. The city of Los Angelos has gone beyond Orwel's
1984 and are ticketing red light violations at more intersections than
not. San Diego does the same thing only on a very limited basis in
comparison.

There was a big fuss made about those cameras when they first appeared. A
law-suit in San Diego took the cameras off-line for a while, but they were
back soon enough after the suit was over. The complaint was that a company
who owned the cameras was also allowed to review and ticket those who they
thought were in violation of running a red light. The suit removed the
company from being the law enforcer and put the police department in
charge of reviewing the film.
