I'm not protecting anyone, they're both big boys quite capable and articulate
enough to state their own case.
 
The Fidonews-editor's position is quite an easy issue for me ... it has always
been common practice that the title is passed-on by the current editor to the
next-one. It sometimes lands you in awkward situations where a certain Mark
Hernandez, known to all as Zorch Frezberg, becomes the editor who then passes
it on to Mark Wolsink (or was that the other way around?) to piss-off a large
group of people. Many didn't like it either, we lived through that period,
Fidonews survived.
 
My position is the methodology to get editors in the saddle and which has
always worked (with the exception of the death of Doug Myers) should not be
altered.
 
But no-one stops you and others from, as was so eloquently explained to me a
couple of times, to vote with your feet ... start with another publication ...
"The FidoTimes" for example and seek to do better. Quality always drifts to the
surface like oil.
 
Something similar occured in the early-90's. Some sysop from the Netherlands,
Arjen Lentz, started with the EMBBS-newsletter. It went belly-up but anyone can
always attempt to do better and if there's demand I have no problem in carrying
a competing newsletter.
