I'm actually pretty easy going unless I run into an asshole. I don't have
a problem giving an asshole some of his own medicine. mvdv knows that all
too well.

BK>>> Micromanager? Or just plain anal?
RW>> Why are you an asshole?
BK> Sorry, you're looking in the mirror again.

Hey, it's your mirror and it has a burnt in image of you.

BK>>>>> I dislike change. Kinda conservative that way, in the classical

RW>>>> I'm liberal in that way.
 BK>>> Damned liberal!
 RW>> Fucked, isn't it.

No reply?

 RW>>>> I like change, as it's always a challange.

 BK> How old are you?

Older than you.

BK> When you are over 50, and in a high paying level, finding another job
BK> is just a bit of something I don't want to try.

I never had that problem. I closed up my business in 1998 and went to work
for others, demanding and getting the pay I wanted for my service.

I recommend doing the same if you'll be at the height of your income
level. Especially if you're in your last 5 or 6 years before retirement,
as your SS payments are based on how much you've paid into your account.
As a businessman, I almost always paid in the least amount, as my income
taxes were based on gross income minus costs and losses. I had a very good
CPA and went tax free for at least 3 years running.

BTW, when I was between jobs, it was my choice not my former employers.

BK>>> That and head office types who just don't want to hear their work
BK>>> is anything less than perfect.
RW>> Of course they don't. No more than you want to hear that
RW>> yours is less than what they expect of you.
BK> Oh, I don't mind that very much, since I don't like to do work
 BK> that low in quality.

Then you shouldn't have a problem with your supervisors/foremen. Unless of
course, their idea of quality is higher than what you produce.

BK>>> Sorry, change seems to be much overrated.
RW>> Some people like the rut they're in ... I never stayed at

BK> I didn't until I found a job that paid so well, and I had the
BK> opportunity to utilize my abilities to such an extent, that I
BK> found it hard to match it.

Did you know that a job that pays well, is the first job that is
eliminated when a company needs to downsize? That is, unless you're in a
managment position and you're buddies with your superiors. :o) Politics.

RW>> wasn't learning anything new, if I wasn't getting the work
RW>> I wanted or I got bored with the job, I moved on. That is,
RW>> until I became my own boss. My first year was a struggle
 RW>> because I was now maintaining a business, a household and a
 RW>> sick wife.
BK> Nice thing about industrial automation, we were always learning
BK> new things. And we got around so much it was hard to get really
 BK> bored.

For five years after I closed my business, I worked for an engineering
firm that designed and manufactured production assembly automation
equipment. It was a fun job and paid very well. Unfortunately, the owner
won a bid to re-build a system for Hewlett-Packard, but lost the contract
because of his not-so-above-board billing practices. He nearly went
belly-up and the 'overhead' was out the door until he recovered. By then I
had an even more lucrative opportunity come my way and never went back,
although I was asked to.

RW>> The challange was to persevere in spite of the load, and I
 RW>> did.
BK> However, I have found that idiot managers are a constant in this
BK> world, so the challenge was to survive them.

An even bigger challenge is to 'replace' them.
