Hello mark.

27 Aug 04 10:57, you wrote to me:

ml>>> gun would be trying to detect...

JB>> yeah, you have that advantage.

ml> what do you mean "you"?

more correctly: "one has that advantage."
in the "strain" langaugem the two mean basically the same thing...

ml> unless radar detectors with laser detection
ml> capability are illegal or not sold over there, everyone has this
 ml> advantage ;)

There's laws against radar detectors in at-least parts of aus.

ml>>> i won't even mention that a driver that is properly
ml>>> observant should be able to see a police car that may be
ml>>> laser targeting before they get into range...

JB>> They use "civilian" cars here, and/or park them on a side
JB>> street. often they stand behind some obstacle, a bus shelter,
JB>> power pole, or large shrub and step out ans zap you with the
 JB>> gun.

ml> ummm... laser only works when traveling toward or away from... not
ml> from the side... if they are standing and hiding, they can't just "pop
ml> out" and get ya because of the sensitivity of the pointing of the
ml> device... they have to be braced or mounted on a tripod for
ml> accuracy... it's like shooting a gun and getting the bullet to bounce
ml> back at ya... it doesn't take much to not hit what you are trying to
 ml> aim at...

we have these back-reflective number plates on the front and rear of our cars.
(like roaddie signage they reflect most incident light back in the direction it
came from)

ml> over here, we fight all speeding tickets in one manner or another...
ml> laser hasn't been proven to the courts to be workable... i can't
ml> remember the term for it... something like judicial-mention or so...
ml> anyway, fighting them forces the prosecution to bring in expert
ml> witnesses and in many cases, they have to spend more $$$ than one
ml> would get from the ticket... the thing is that they don't want you to
ml> know this and so most folk simply pay up... the term "highway robbery"
ml> does have its roots ;) of course, the laws are different in your area
 ml> and so YMMV...

I haven't heard of anyone escaping a traffic fine for a technological reason
lately..

Jasen
