Hello Matt.

27 Dec 06 01:30, you wrote to me:

 MB> Hello Jeff.

 MB> 25 Dec 06 15:24, you wrote to me:

I do. And the reason that I suggest that is because although people
are still able to post. The editor/moderator has a negative effect because
of his propensity to express his personal opinions and his behavior as
moderator. It could be argued that his behavior as moderator doesn't affect
his duties as editor. While that could be true to an extent. I think people
who see his behavior as moderator will expect the same from him as editor.

I take from your argument that your implying that as long as an editor
is willing to post articles that are submitted. How he acts and how he
behaves as editor and/or moderator makes no difference. That he is free to
act as he chooses regardless of the negative impact that said behavior has
on Fidonews. If that is the case then I would have to disagree.

The editor has feelings, opinions, beliefs just like everyone else. But
being and editor care must be taken to not let those personal opinions affect
their job as editor or moderator. Hypothetically, if an editor or moderator
attacks people based on their religion or what country they may come from or
what political views they may have. That behavior is bound to have a negative
impact on people's view of that person as editor or moderator as well as on
Fidonews. Some might avoid the Fidonews and/or the echo because they have
the expectation of the treatment that they will recieve. Awhile back when
I sumitted an article I had an expectation of it not being published. That
expectation was based on the current editors prior behavior. I was glad to
see that that expectation was wrong. My point here is that the editor's
behavior caused me to expect that of him.

MB> so why do his views and
MB> expression of them stop you from writing an article?

They don't. But his views and his way of expressing them could very
well make people not want to bother with either reading or writing articles.
That is just one of the negative effects that his behavior can have on the
Fidonews.

 MB> It's ths same
MB> damn thing! ;-) I just see the snooze has turned into a 'ball' for
MB> people to fight over. I think the comparison to terrorism is value.
MB> Even if we conceeded and gave the terrorists everything they wanted,
MB> shock would turn into reality, and they would try to find something
MB> else to fight over. In other words, even if we were willing, we could
MB> never make or keep them happy. Some people just need a cause, I
 MB> guess.

 MB> e.g.

MB> bin laden: damn, al, i never thought they'd give us what we wanted
MB> al-zarqawi: you're right. so, uh, whats next?
 MB> (silence)
MB> bin laden: (tapping desk) the americans have left iraq, palestinians
MB> are free...uh, I guess we have to find something else... our followers
MB> are getting restless... gee, im really not sure.
MB> al-zarqawi: i hear fast food are bad for your health...?
 MB> bin laden: r.r.r.r.right...
 MB> (silence)
MB> bin laden: i guess it'll have to do. death to fast food! I mean
MB> mcdonalds! uh..no....i mean the infidels! (silence) bin laden: fast
MB> food was created by amercians, right al?

MB> Lets break it all down sequentually because when typed in text it
 MB> seems to get lost?

 MB> regarding this echo:

 MB> - we don't like the moderator.

MB> - we then post messages in defiance of rules (swearing, cursing,
MB> topic, etc.) to test the enforcement of the rules

MB> - the moderator, knows better, ignores these provoking individuals
MB> because he knows once a person has made up their mind they will not be
MB> moderated it is a waste of time.

MB> - we then claim the moderator is inept because he cannot moderate us
MB> (secretly, we will ignore any request by him to moderate us anyway)
MB> he is damned either way.

MB> - we then call him inept and demand he be replaced

MB> - (six months, a year elapses, the cycle repeats here or somewhere
 MB> else)

 MB> regarding the snooze:

MB> - there are no articles in fidonews

MB> - we can spend hours writing messages complaining about the editor and
MB> lack of articles but refuse to lift a finger to write one

MB> - we then blame the editor for the lack of articles

MB> - and demand he be replaced

MB> - (six months, a year elapses, the cycle repeats here or somewhere
 MB> else)

 MB> That's rigoddamndiculous.

JS>> Anyone that has the time and interest and wishes to research
JS>> can pretty much find out whatever they want. As we have seen
JS>> right here in this echo there are those people that will look
JS>> back in this and other echos and use statements made by the
JS>> moderator against him. That is why it is important that the
JS>> moderator uses care in the expression of their opinion.

MB> The messages we write here take just as long to write as an article.
MB> So, I dont think anyone hese has an excuse or reason to complain for
 MB> the absense of articles.
