The truth is, we really don't know.  Though some scientists consider the GUTs
and String theories bad theories because the energy levels to test them cannot
be found at CERN or anywhere else in the world; they predict odd things like
magnetic monopoles and allow for other odd things.  Ruling something out
because you have looked everywhere in the observable universe is one thing; but
ruling it out simply because you have not seen it on planet earth is bad
science.

I do not believe it is likely either but think of the few short lived,
artificially sythesized elements that occupy the backwaters of the periodic
table.  They have not been found in nature, and perhaps never will be, but we
were able to manufacter them.  Now we may not be able to technologically
invision how exotic forms of nature, and perhaps, neither can nature itself,
but the laws of physics might not be against their existience in this universe
if they could be created artifically.

The later series, I guess to cater to those more demanding goes in to more
detail.   Of course, its all theatrics so I doubt they would say anything
truely scientific.  But fascinating nonetheless.

Black holes were a well worked out fantasy by a scientist named schwarzchild
until it was later proven they exist by indirect observation.

I'm more likely to believe a warp drive to work since there is a clear
mathematical definition for it to work that does not require exotic forms of
matter.  The bending of space time is easy, if you have the energy to do it. 
:)

I oftimes ponder if exotic matter and energy are merely the way
physicists refer to the missing mass - energy on the other side of a 
spacial membrane or brane for short.

Warp drive would seem to imply the neccessity of transitioning
into an different dimension?

Any views on this???
