Sounds about right.  I was waiverng between the two.  Remember, my cooking isnt
that exact.  I suspect your OZ to DL for the amount of dried peas would be a
bit off but seems proportionally pretty close among the stuff.

You are right that our measurement system is 'wierd'.  It's also based on a
diferent thought process which you tried to preserve (volume based).  We tend
to use weights for meats and whole items, and volume for cut up ones of any
type other than meat.

The European/Australian methods are much more exact.  That doesnt mean you cant
get a good product our wya, but you have to know what you are doing or have a
kitchen weigher to be able to translate between the two.  If it helps, 500g is
a bit more than 1 lb.  16oz is one lb but that's when you take a volume mesure
and apply to a weight so isnt actually as accurate as saying '2 cups dried
peas' (roughly 16oz though may be closer to 20oz).

If you want fun with all here, go ahead and post my version of metric
translation and see what folks make of it <g>.  It shows the thought process
difference in how we cook.

Meantime, munching down a pot of carrot soup from my baby crockpot.  I have a
recipe, but didnt follow it.  Using your system combined with mine:
3 carrots, about 2 cups, possibly 400g, sliced up
3 cups broth, bit less than 4dl
1 TB (15ml) butter
1 TS (5ml) curry powder, mild type

Let it go on low til the carrots are totally soft then throw it all in a
blender and smooth it down.  Pour back in the crockpot to keep it hot.  Should
be very thick but still pourable.  Makes a lovely hot mug when a cold hubby
comes home after walking back from work.
