RW>> You mean all that bowing and scraping is hard on the back?

 RN> Theirs, not mine. (-:

You don't have to return the bow or curtsey?

RW>> Maybe. I should probably research it more.

RN> I was thinking about doing the same thing. Who knows what will turn
 RN> up?

My grandfather Witt and his siblings wrote a history of Daniel Witt, my
gggrandfather who migrated from Germany. It only goes back to the date
that he came to this country and a brief history of his life, marriage to
my GGgrandmother and thier 9 or 10 offspring. I also have an autobiography
written by my father and a short start to one written by my grandfather
Witt, who suffered a stroke during the writting and so, never finished it.

Somewhere in my library of writings is a short history of my mother's side
of the family. It's not complete by any means, but there's enough there to
make it easier to research more. It may be easier to ask my mother's
youngest brother, as he seems to have a thing for family history.

RW>> People are afraid of change. It upsets thier secure feelings when
RW>> things don't stay the same.

RN> Yeah, it's usually about fear of the unknown. Fear only kills the
 RN> faint of heart.

My mother once told me that she was afraid for me when I pulled up stakes
in Illinois and moved to Seattle to work for Boeing. And when I got fed up
with that, I pulled up stakes again and went to California. But after I
was successful in making it on my own for so many years, she was proud of
me. No one else in our family has been able to cut the apron strings and
make it on thier own without asking for help from my parents.

 RW>> Here's an experience I haven't had since way back. I took my 56
RW>> Chevy out of the garage today and headed down the road to have a
RW>> guy take a look at the aftermarket AC system that has been screwed
RW>> up since who knows when. It certainly wasn't installed correctly.
RW>> Anyway, I couldn't remember the last time I took it out, nor the
RW>> last time I filled up the gas tank. The gauge always reads full, so
RW>> you never know how much gas is in the car.

RW>> Driving down I-10 towards San Antonio the Chevy ran out of gas, but
RW>> I was able to coast to an exit where I called a friend of mine for
RW>> help. He sent me 5 gallons of gas, but before that arrived, a
RW>> motorist stopped to see if he could at least pull me off the ramp
RW>> and get the car out of danger.

RW>> About that time, a guy who runs a Classic Car garage on that exit
RW>> came out to lend a hand. He offered a tow rope. While we were
RW>> hooking it up, the gas came.

RW>> Now, you'd never find people like that in California. You're on
 RW>> your own.

RN> I dont want to believe that, but you would know better than me.

Maybe it's just the number of cars that whiz on by without even looking
that makes me feel that way towards Californians. I've been there and have
done that. I was very surprised to find that Texans are a lot friendlier
than I had thought.

RW>> It was after I got the Chevy back on the road that I found out the
RW>> gas that I got was paid for by the guy who delivered it. He never
RW>> said a word about it and I didn't give it a second thought, as I
RW>> was under the impression that my friend had paid for it.

RW>> It's a good thing he'll be back in town Sunday when I can repay him
RW>> for the gas and his kind offer to drop it off.

RN> That's quite a story, Roy. Thanks for sharing it with us.

You're welcome. BTW, I did make it to the garage where I found out that
they will put the AC back together and I'll be cruising this summer in the
cool, rather than the heat of Texas.
