that should be enough to show that there were *EC positions in active use
before EP! was written... from what i can find, EP! was written in Feb 1989...

i took a look in nodelist.289 from 1987 and do not see any entries listed that
are similar to the above... so i think it is safe to say that the *ECs started
coming in to use between October 16, 1987 and January 8, 1988... they may have
been active before then and just not listed in the nodelist as such...

FWIW: i see thomas kenny listed as the echolist coordinator in that 1987
nodelist... i'm pretty sure that there weren't the problems with echo hijacking
and such that far back... looks like it was designed to be a centralised list
of echos so that folk would know what was available and where to pull it
from... that would have been very important back in those days of no backbone
and each echo actually originating from the moderator's system ;)
