Ärende: Re: Bush Vetoes Waterboarding Bill

That's the problem though, people outside the country don't see what people
inside it are actually trying to do. People regularly protest him and his
actions. And believe it or not, a couple of towns in Vermont recently approved
a measure to arrest Bush and Cheney for crimes against the constitution if they
ever set foot in the towns. Now you know as well as I do that the secret
service would shoot those local cops down if they even tried to do nab the
president. But it's a symbolic gesture. Just like those states who try to get
impeachment resolutions going.

One of the former Democratic presidential nomimees, Dennis Kucinich, filed
official articles of impeachment to congress against Cheney a while back.
Again, it won't go anywhere because the Democratic-controlled congress is
afraid of looking bad for the 2008 election by impeaching anyone, but obviously
people are still doing something.

My thought is that since Bush has so little time left, they're waiting to get a
Democrat in office, then find all the dirt the Bush administration has been
hiding, in order to pile all that evidence up at once. He can still be
impeached after he's gone, I do believe. It happened to Clinton, although his
charges started before he left office. But I believe it removed certain rights
he had as being a former president that he normally would have had after
leaving office.

Of course, if Bush and his buddies get away with all their wrongdoings in the
end, I'll lose a lot of respect for a lot of people.

As I said, average people wanted to keep the person in there who they felt had
a grasp of the situation, since it was technically war time. I thought it was
a completely disappointing election, but it wasn't surprising at all. Had there
never been a 9/11, he would have probably been out of there.

You can't really expect the average American to be up on all the politics
behind an election anyway. They just vote for what they see or hear on TV or
from friends. It's nearly impossible for anyone to keep up with everything
that goes on, let alone people who don't have any real interest in politics in
the first place.

> History will judge the US like any other country that abused her right of

History will judge, and one can hope people will learn from past mistakes. But
Bush has shown us that there can always be leaders who completely ignore our
past mistakes, such as how we're practically getting a new Vietnam with Iraq.
We shouldn't have to go through that again.

> Can't have the cake and eat it too Jeff. If you believe your "democracy"

The Democratic party opposes the war, and as I'm sure any Republican here would
agree with, had Al Gore been elected in 2000, there would have probably never
been any war to start with. That's the problem, though. I think our goal with
Afghanistan was justified after what happened with 9/11, and I don't have a
problem with us going over there. We probably helped a lot of people by
getting the Taliban off their backs. Of course, I always contend that with a
different administration, we might have never even had 9/11 to start with, but
what's done is done.

Iraq though was completely misguided from the start. Then it was one crooked
thing after another by these clowns we have in charge. The people who are at
risk of getting in trouble for what they've done are the same ones quietly
passing legislation to grant themselves immunity. Meanwhile, the American
people lose more rights all the time without the majority ever realizing it.
That's what you have to understand. Most people just don't know about this
stuff. They hear one thing, then hear another thing. Who knows what to
believe. Most people just don't care, and are more concerned with paying their
bills on time than what Bush is up to at the moment.

People are still trying to make change, but sometimes you just have to ride out
the storm, and fix back what you can afterwards.
