From my point of view, the media does a lot to make us sway back and forth. For
example, Obama's minister pouring through the news is enough to make anyone
dislike or question him, myself included.  It wasn't until I heard Barack
himself speak about it that my opinion situated back on the man rather than the
media's portrayal.
 
His speech, and that speech alone, was one that's capable of influencing
peoples' opinions.  Other ones he's made in the past, along with McCain and
Hillary, didn't mean much of anything to me, nor probably to anyone else.  It
was mostly just campaign crap.  But he used this one not only to explain
himself, but cover matters which most politicians won't touch.  He addressed
things which just don't get addressed by presidential candidates.  Race is
still a big problem in America, regardless of what a lot of people would like
to say.  Admitting as much is one of the big first steps to straightening the
mess out, instead of quietly sweeping it back under the rug for political
correctness.
 
Anyway, do I still find it fishy that he went to the man's church for over 20
years? Of course.  But Barack claims the guy never made such racial remarks
before that he had seen, despite admitting that he had in fact made other
controversial statements.  I have to either believe he's a liar, or that he's
truthful.  So far, I haven't had a lot of reason to consider him an outright
liar, so I'll have to take his word for it.  Not everyone will, and that's
their decision to make.  My opinion of his honesty might still change on down
the road, too.  That's the nature of politics, here at least.

Hillary and McCain are just as full of hot air when it comes to that sort of
thing.  Any candidate will promise things they won't necessarily ever be able
to fulfill.  It's just part of campaigning.  Do I ever expect to see worthwhile
national healthcare during either of the Democrat's terms?  Why no. But I know
they might at least help lay a foundation for it.  Something McCain and most
Republicans wouldn't.
 
Things are coming out about Hillary's past and whether she actually did as much
as she claims when she was in the white house.  I think being first lady gives
her quite a bit of experience in general, but people will pick and poke until
they either find dirt or at least cause controversy.  I have no idea where this
particular matter had gone yet and honestly don't know if I care. I like some
aspects about Hillary, but she's a panderer too.
 
McCain has "real" experience, but doesn't have much else in my book.  He just
goes around saying "my friends" a lot and talking about Iraq.  From what I can
tell he's going to walk in and pick up right where Bush left off.  The country
doesn't like Bush, and they don't need another one.

Sometimes you vote for who you dislike the least, not necessarily who you think
is actually best.  Do I think Hillary and Obama are better than McCain? Sure.
Do I think Obama is better than Hillary?  At the moment.  But I didn't
originally think so.  And my opinion might change again in the coming months,
since many things come out into the open in such times.
 
A person's good merrits don't mean much if they have enough bad merrits come
out to counter them.
