 RB> You don't pay postage?

What's .41x3 per month? A pittance. It's better tha buying cigarettes.

RB> And how about keeping track of the checks?

Great pieces of software available for that. And they're usually free. At
least mine was.

RB> That's the worst part of the system for me... checks sent, not cashed
RB> yet, maybe lost in the mail...

The software I use to write and print checks takes care of the checks sent
part. Online banking allows me to see when those checks are presented for
payment. When a statement claims that they didn't get payment, I print out
the checks that were printed that month and show them that all of the
checks written have been cashed. The Post Office claims that they don't
lose mail, so their arguement that they didn't receive payment is mute.

RB> God alone knows what the balance of the account is at any given
RB> time. And if you have an overdraft, even $0.01, draconian fees from
 RB> the bank.

I have enough money in my checking account where I don't worry about
overdrafts. But if such were to mysteriously happen, there is back up in
the form of a savings account that draws interest on the balance. It
doesn't draw as much as my Money Market accounts, but $350 in a savings
account is pocket change these days. And that will cover any amount that
I'd write a check for.

RW>> Read the item I told Robert about, where someone tried to scam my
 RW>> bank account.

RB> I'd be interested in the details. Did someone write a check on your
RB> account or was this done electronically, by accessing your account on
 RB> the Internet?

Neither. A debit to my account was presented electronically which used my
plastic card's 16 digit number. It was no different than if I had made a
$3 purchase at a convenience store with the card. The person who did this
was located in California, which is all I know about them.

RW>>>> I prefer to do the bill paying in person.

WD>>> So do I ... from my living room ... works perfect quite secure and
WD>>> been doing that for over 17-18 years now that I can remember.

RW>> Same here...I do it in the computer room and then drop them at the
RW>> Post Office on my way to my next call.

RB> The difference being that we require no visit to the post office (and
 RB> no postage).

I go by the Post Office, the Utility Company and the Tax Office on a daily
basis (they're on the same street through town). When the time comes to
pay bills, it's a convenient way to kill the day. Besides that, I get to
mingle with the people there abouts, not couped up in a living room all
day.

An event happened yesterday, where I had to take my glasses back to the
store where I had them made. A screw came loose and the right lense fell
out. Since I couldn't see well enough to put it back, I drove down that
same street and had my glasses fixed. On the way back, I dropped into a
pawn shop and found a 1945 antique Philco radio (it still works). $100
later it was loaded into my truck and off I went with a new toy. Oh the
joy of getting off my butt, getting outdoors and paying attention to other
things besides the tile on the ceiling in the living room. Oh happy day.
