Ärende: Morality and law (was: A passing of signific)
=====================================================
14 Aug 08 08:08, Robert Bashe wrote to Roy Witt:

 RB> [Mr. Bush]

Wrong...the subject was FDR.

DC>>> What he allowed is against international law.

RW>> What he allowed was according to Int'l law and US law.

RB> Secret wiretaps without judicial approval or review (not even that of
 RB> a secret judge)?

Never happened to US citizens. Contrary to popular belief among
foreigners, including immigrated Americans, only Congress can pass laws
and they only become law -IF- the President signs them into law, or the
Congress over-rides his veto with a 75% majority vote.

RB> Retroactive legalization of illegal wiretaps by phone companies?

Only Congress can pass legislation. The President can only sign it into
law when their package lands on his desk, -IF- he has a notion to do so.
He has no line-item veto, so he can't cut and paste what he want's it to
be.

If you want to bitch about such laws, you need to address them to the
Liberally led Congress, Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelozi and Senate
Majority Leader, Harry Reid.

RB> Concentration camps outside the USA to avoid the need to obey US law?

US Concentration camps? That's rediculous. You're sounding more and
more like that blathering idiot Foresstrom.

RB> I'm not only talking about Guantanamo

Gitmo is a retirement community, where those being held are treated better
than American criminals held in American prisons. Gitmo, run by the
military, and those who are in charge there, are subject to the Uniform
Code of Military Justice which is legislated by Congress.

Military trials are implemented by the Manual for Courts-Martial, an
executive order issued by the President of the United States in his
capacity as Commander-in-Chief of the United States armed forces. He is
bound by that federal law as are the military courts.

RB> - the secret CIA prisons are meanwhile public knowledge.

Rumor and nothing more.

RB> Let's just ignore Iraq, but what Bush has done to _Americans_ reminds
RB> me of the retroactive legalization of the "Night of the Long Knives"
 RB> in Germany in 1934.

Of course you know this from experience? I've yet to see anything of the
sort and I live here.

RB> I've come from defending the man because I didn't see proof of
RB> misdeeds, to seeing just what he has done to America, its legal
RB> system and its reputation throughout the globe.

That's because you're too easily swayed by the liberals in Europe. BTW,
they can't even defend the Georgians, we have to do it for them. A nice
cartoon I saw this morning's paper.

There's a depiction of the Georgian oil pipeline to western Europe,
capped and a spigot on the cap.

The Russian bear is leaning on it with a Georgian citizen in the
bear's left hand wrapped around his neck. The spigot at the end of the
pipe is shut off, a sign stating so.

There stands the European, weeping because he can't even get a cup of oil
and he says, "I've just spoken to the USA and you're in trouble now!"

Right there in your own back yard and ya'll wimper for help, the big bad
bear is gonna kick your ass's if you open your mouth.

Which Neville Chamberlain will step forward this time?

RB> If ever a president needed to be impeached, it would have been Mr.
 RB> Bush

Not even the democrats, the majority of our Congress, can bring themselves
to do that even in an election year, because they'll look as stupid as
you when they bring it up.

The President may have the lowest rating among Presidents in recent
history, but the man is a hero, has saved entire countries, the USA,
Afghanistan and espeically Iraq from a murdering dictator and a Al Caida
that would cut Europe's throat if they got the chance. And you think he
should be impeached? Not likely.

I thought you had more brains than that, Bob. I guess I've been wrong
about you, for you're no better than the Euros you live with.

RB> - he's done as much damage to the American system as the Civil War
 RB> did,

Bullshit and you know it. The US Congress has done more damage to the US
in the past two years, that can't be fixed for a long time.

RB> and it will presumably take many decades to repair it and restore
RB> America to the domestic and international respect it once had.

It doesn't need anyone else's respect, it has all it needs right here.

 RB> Cheers, Bob

RB> P.S. And before you start off calling me a "blind liberal", let me
RB> just tell you that I was born and raised in Texas and have absolutely
RB> no sympathy with leftists or their ideology.

Bullshit to that too. Texas has it's marxist left and you would be among
them today, if we'd let you back in the state.

PS - I'm not necessarily a Bush fan, but I have respect for him and the
office he occupies. We could be blessed with the likes of real bad people
like AlGore or John Kerry instead. Thank God we're not.
