Telling people to abstain from something isnt bad.

Obviously we have people whom wont heed such advice, but on that statistic
alone does not a case make that says we should no longer tell people to abstain
from something.

As a mother yourself, you have told your children plenty of things that they
should not do as you were raising them, I suppose they took some of it to heart
and it is possible other teaching went ignored, but that does not mean you
shouldnt have given this teaching on any assumption that they might not heed
it.

So for the 5,629th time my position on sex-ed is:

Teach Abstinence ***AND*** birth control = Sex-ed..

First Line of Defense = Abstain, dont do it, wait...

Second Line Of Defense = If you must do it, then use protection etc..

(opt in of course) Those kids whose parents opted them out can goto study hall.

Study hall isnt a bad thing either.. ;-)

What I keep seeing via inference, is that some say sex-ed should only teach
birth control in the context of "when you have sex" instead of "If you have
sex".. There will be kids whom will abstain (horrors), I am one of them, I had
sex when I was a teen, but I at least waited til I reached the legal age of
majority. (and no, my parents werent and arent bible thumpers) My first kiss
was with a Methodist Preachers daughter, I was 15, so was she, small Indiana
town 10 miles east of Illinois border(wide spot in a corn field, rated a Dairy
Queen).. On vacation, only knew her for 2 days, she was boy crazy.. My first
encounter alot heavier than that occurred at age 19 with a Catholic Girl, so
you dont have to tell me anything I dont already know.

The when you have sex mentaility encourages it and sends the message of tacit
approval.

I dont know in your case, but perhaps all of your kids did wait or maybe they
didnt, and if they didnt, maybe they got lucky and didnt have an "accident" or
maybe they did, however it may be, I am sure that as your kids were of minority
age, it was more likely than not your best hope that they wouldnt?

Not,,

I took Roberts statement to a extreme...

Letting nature run its course in everything, we wouldnt have skyscrapers,
ships, bridges much less the homes we live in..

Medically we wouldnt have stretched our life spans, cured many diseases and be
able to cope well with physical injuries and deformities...

Yet we have Doctors and Engineers whom have done things despite of nature..

In this extreme example, human engenuity defied nature and won in many
instances.

Heck, we even learned how to warm the planet!!!!!!!!!

Robert and Michiel are very correct in one respect, raging teen hormones, heat
of passion/moment may not be conquered by any form of education, guidance or
parental nattering, but that doesnt mean it shoudnt be done.

How you took this as a slight against woman is beyond me?
