I had that problem too. If I couldn't aquire it on my own, then there was
no reason to bother dad to borrow a few bucks.

Kinda like my 'sidewalk' car that I paid too much for from paper route
collections.

My dad had a Simplex in his collection. No, mine wasn't a Simplex.

I had to put the engine back together too. I had the hardest time finding
rod bolts. I'd never even heard of 'socket head cap screws' before and my
search for them took me all over town (on my bicycle). To top it off, they
were 1/4-28-UNF threads, which made them even more impossible to find.
Years later, I worked in a factory that made those bolts and then
apprenticed in a shop as a Tool & Die Maker, where I had boxes full of
them. That Whizzer was the first time I'd ever seen roller rod bearings.
