RW>>> quit. The day I put in my notice was the worst day I had ever had,
RW>>> having to change 4 tires in the cold and rain. One of the other

RW>>> my day job. Meaning I'd have to get out of bed and go out at 3am
RW>>> to, worst case; change a tire.

 JB>> Well, that's a young man's work.

RW>> Nahhh. That's an able bodied man's work. I had no problem with the
RW>> labor part of the job.

JB> That's a good thing at our ages.

In the summer heat, I actually lost weight doing that work. Most of it in
sweat. :o)

JB>> I could never do that and enjoy it now, even in my late 50's which
 JB>> is
 JB>> not that old.

RW>> I enjoyed the work as I was on a salary. When I quit, those I left
RW>> behind were taken off of salary and put on commissions only. One of
RW>> them was transferred to San Antonio for part of his work week,
RW>> leaving only one tech to cove the 625 square miles that two of us
 RW>> used to cover together.

 JB> That's a little over-demanding... ouch.

In exchange for driving the long distances to service a locked car, my
partner got to do all of the tire changes, even in my territory. :o)
Unfortunately, there were days that he and I worked the area alone, or I
wouldn't have had to change any tires. :o)

JB>> I'm fortunate to have a job where I work from home at a desk, with a
JB>> computer. That's as hot and sweaty or as cold and wet as I won't
 JB>> get. (-:

RW>> I'd like that, for about one nano second. Got to be free to roam.

JB> HaHa! I am free to roam. I have an AT&T wireless card in my work
 JB> laptop.

The other managers in San Antonio get one of those, paid for by the
company. I didn't rate one of those.

JB> I know what you mean, though. The most fun job I had was when I
JB> drove a delivery truck in College. All I had to do was load
JB> up, jump in, crank up the music and run my route for the day. I was
JB> always out of bed and ready to go to that job.

Company supplied delivery truck? Cush job...

RW>> Paperwork has it's moments. I served as a 'Manufacturing Planner'
RW>> for a company where I was hands-on building the prototypes which
RW>> later went into production. I created travelers that started a job
RW>> down the line and explained each operation to the workers. I really
RW>> liked that job, as it allowed me to get out of the office and roam
 RW>> the plant's manufacturing area.

JB> It helps to get out. I can travel nation wide when I determine I have
JB> a need. I try to keep travel costs to a minimum and only go when
 JB> absolutley necessary.

I had a friend in San Diego with a job like that. He only had to go into
the office on pay day. I think that was so the company could make sure he
was still kickin'...

JB> Well, I'll probably give it 10 more years. According to an actuarial
JB> table I was using, to determine how much I should save for the golden
JB> years, I learned if I retire at 65 I am expected to live till 80.
JB> Ain't that a slap in the face? I'm staring death right *in* the face!
 JB> (-:

Guess what it looks like from my vantage point. Looming overhead!
