You must have missed that part of the thread. It started out with the
subject of old rare cars, like my 1956 Chevrolet. Not that many around
these days.

A used car has a 30 day guarantee offered by the local garage or used car
lot. Only a new car would have a worthwhile 'warranty' that covers a
couple, two, three years by the manufacturer.

In that case, the person you hire guarantees that what he's reported
to you is what you'll get. Plus there is always CarFax, which gives you a
complete history of the vehicle from day one of it's life.

That's right. For a person like you, only seeing the vehicle up close and
personal would satisfy you. That's why they make airplanes and sell
tickets to fly on them, so you can go look at it yourself.

You say you're a cheap Dutchman, so you probably wouldn't buy an airplane
ticket to go look at a rare specimen in Italy. So, you look around town
and you find one that is less than an ideal specimen and you buy it. So,
you save a few thousand bucks, but you've not had the pleasure of even
reading a report from a qualified mechanical inspecter on the first one.
Along comes your neighbor who you told about the car but you were too
cheap to invest in a report. He did and so his is a perfect example of a
restored car, while the one you took a chance on is a pile of crap that
only a cheap dutchman should own.

Unlike Europe, in the US we have the freedom to select vehicles from
dealers, dealer used car lots, independent used car lots, dealer auctions,
reposessed vehicle auctions thru banks, credit unions, wholesale sellers,
private sellers and the list goes on and on.
